Why is an in-house movement always seems better value compared to some ETA28XX?
What if the in house movement is a old design, and is available in many of its watches range over the years.
Still in house is better?

There are many reasons why people prefer in-house movements. Some of the reasons I have seen (not my opinion ) are: (i) SWATCH manufactures ETA and people don't like the idea of paying so much for a watch that is essentially made by SWATCH; and (ii) why pay say $5k for a watch when a $1k watch also uses a ETA movement.

There are pros to ETA movements too. For example, with the volume of watches using ETA movements, the repair cost/parts is relatively cheap. Also, the ETA movements are, more often than not, very reliable.

If you are buying a watch to wear and not invest, the movement doesn't matter that much. Most importantly is that you like the design. After all, the best watch IMHO is the one that you wear out the most often

or should I stick to its bracelet n not mess with its original presentation??

I don't see why it can't match your watch. Found something similar online where the strap colour matches the bezel.

I don't see why it can't match your watch. Found something similar online where the strap colour matches the bezel.

I'm looking for a watch that look something like omega seamaster series. Like the one below with a budget of maximum 1k. Do you all have any suggestion? Looking at automatic watch. Thanks!

or should I get a rubber strap

Can go down to shops to try. Or, buy both and try lor. What's the price of the NATO and rubber straps compared to a GMT?

For me, I'm fine with the scratches as I wear it on a daily basis, but then that's just me.

I'm more paranoid about chipping/shattering the sapphire crystal. The last time I was at Rolex service centre, I saw this lady who had to change her crystal as it had shattered. Thought I heard it cost $1k+

Have a look at Orient and Seiko diver watches, they are well within your budget. Buy both and still got change

You can find an ETA2892-A2 in a watch for less than $2K. Similarly, you can find it in a IWC Ingenieur 3239 for ~$7300. There is no exclusivity to where and what brand of watch it is used in. When you cross the $5k mark, there are many other choices with in-house movement to consider.

Do you want to buy a Lexus with an Altis engine?
Similarly, when I buy a Merc, I want it to come with a Merc engine and not some engine sourced from other manufacturers.

I find the duplicated Arabic indexes quite redundant. But the inwards slope is quite unique. Also dun like the chrono look. It'll look more "timeless" w a classic look.

Of cos I know Lexus belongs to Toyota, but it doesn't used a Toyota engine. The Lexus engine is developed entirely in house by Lexus!

Icic.....sorry ah not a fan of japanese cars and not such a technical guy.

I dont mind if the engine is from elsewhere. Lotus has been running fantastically well on toyota engines (the rover engine sucks). So as long as it works well, the market buys it, thats good enough.

On that note though I was disappointed with the V6 (GM) on my Brera. Wish they hadn't swapped out the Arease (italian) V6 on previous alfa's.

Zenith, tag and Dior also belongs to same company leh.

I agreed. They may belongs to certain watch groups (LVMH, Richemont, Swatch Group, PPR Group). But their movements exclusivity still stays with the watch brand.

We probably will never see a Zenith movement use in a Tag Heuer.

Lotus seems to be using engines from everywhere they could source. The Lotus M100 Elan, launched in 1989 used an Isuzu engine, and now their car are using Toyota engine!
What I mean was, it is similar to watchmakers who will just buy movement from whoever is readily available (ETA, Sellita, Soprod).
In-house movement is the only way up for watch manufacturers.
