the lower bottom half of the orange GMT hand on the black maxi dial explorer II is black, lending to a "floating" hand effect, which is more interesting, imo.

i used to think white dials are easier on the eye, but when done right, high contrast black/dark dials can look sporty and adds character.

in fact, certain iconic models are better identified by certain dial colours eg.
- black for the speedy moonwatch & rolex sub,
- blue petite tapisserie for the ap ro.
- orange for the doxa dive watch.

take the case of the yachtmaster. it was available in silvery-grey platinum dial until the recent introduction of the dark blue dial which certainly attracts the eye more & makes the former anemic by comparison.

The blue dial yachtmaster is really a beauty, but retails ard 15k in ADs. Grey market is about 12k but is rarely seen for sale, don't know why it is less popular.

like yattokame, say will eat grass for next 3 yrs after helping himself, his wife, his mum and his kakis hoot hundreds of thousands worth of watches - say say only.

the blue screw another 90 euro ==ll so choose the normal TOP nia
ETA is end march...can't wait!

my first watch
wanted tissot visodate too previously, since my budget was <1k
but then everybody rec tissot as a starter
abit too mainstream already
go where also see ppl wear that

gonna aim for a IWC pilot after i finish my poly and army

I'd suggest u go see the both these watches for yourself. The white dial model looks nice from the pics BUT IMO its not as attractive in the flesh. The lack of the shiny silver surround for the hands and indices makes it less appealing. The white dial model in comparison gives it a more casual look.

so many say white explorer 2 nicer...feel like hooting one...

go which AD cheaper?

My vote goes to the white. I used to own the Omega GMT Great White, but i always thought the White Explorer 2 is far more classic. Here are both watches side by side:

if by less popular you mean it's rarely seen on the resale market, it's because it's fairly recent, so lesser in number and availability.

in addition, watches that people like keeping for themselves are less likely to be released for resale.

taste varies, so buy, wear & keep what you like & love. popularity is over-rated, unless the majority have good taste.

indeed, class, taste, sophistication & discernment are more important.

as opposed to crass, vulgarity, brand whoring & the herd/lemming-mentality of the insecure, low-brow parvenu.

money can buy many things but certainly not class, upbringing & sophistication if there isn't any to begin with.

I noticed grass tastes best with wasabi. Gives it a more bang in the mouth, and the manure smell is gone too.

Am thinking of selling my roboto and maurice lacroix skeleton because I have not been wearing them for more than 6 months. But then again the latter is my first luxury watch and the roboto is quite an interesting piece.

Should I sell them away? Can free up some cash for another watch than leave it there sitting pretty in the winder. Like I said I'm a brand ***** so I end up wearing the PP most of the time

Hi guys, newbie here! I'm looking for a mid range watch for my 21st bday, preferably less than 1k. Looking for a classy and clean cut automatic watch with leather strap. Any good brands and models to recommend? Ty ^^

consider the hamilton intra-matic @ 38mm.

- a classic, minimalist, timeless dial design with baton/stick hour markers (you're spared the modern arabic numeral vs ancient roman numeral debate).
- at 38mm, the perfect dress watch size: not too big nor too small.
- thin & low-profile enough to slip under your long sleeve cuff: again a key trait of dress watches.
- date at 6 o'clock that preserves symmetry to the watch.
- no seconds hand. this is a deal breaker for some, but let's face it: a hour-minute hands only watch tell others you're not a hurried & harried individual who needs a second hand. heck, there're even hour hand only watches that carries this concept even further.

they only sell on9

u can go try laco then imagine a bigger version of it maybe with a slight different, as they are somewhat the same
laco is 36mm
stowa 40mm

it's the same size as tissot visodate
maybe abit thicker

congrats to your fine acquisition. you've made a good choice.

your stowa's dial design is more faithful to the original design of the b-uhr flieger observation watch than iwc.

the only step up would be to get a dinner plate sized 55mm similar to the original with the original style leather strap.

no respect for iwc: poor value proposition - overpriced & not faithful to the original. repugnant to all purists out there.

I would recommend stowa flieger with logo and with date. I love the blue tempered hands.

the purists would say: no logo, no date for the look that's authentic to the original design, be it from stowa or laco.

After overspending last year, recently I made a humble acquisition: Seiko 5 Sports Auto

A nice budget auto. Bought it to replace my Timex but realized its too nice to be used in the pool and in the rough. So will be switching to leather strap once the current nylon one start to wear. Now looking for a even lower budget Casio ....

No one selling, get a middlemen to do it and price will go up!
Stowa has long wait times, lots of ppl willing to risk it.

U can always try similar design such as laco or archness at gnomon at sim lim

Other Purist would also say weak or lame history. Jorg just bought the name. Laco kinda same deal for those nuts about history. Lol
Authentic to original design size is like 55mm too.

For those into these watch just buy within your budget and most impt enjoy it!

i find the thick black outlines of the hands and hour markers goes very well with the pure white lacquer dial. looks less blingy and more task orientated than silver. sorta gives the tool watch/g-shock vibes.

Finally had a strap (greyish blue baby hornback) made for my 7F so i can wear it more often. The original full white was too feminine for my liking.
