I know everyone is going strap crazy with Pams but not me leh...for me it's the watch mainly.

Of course everyone has their own angle of attraction. Nothing wrong with having no interest in straps.

Straps just open up another dimension. Personally, because I'm vain, I like my leathers to be visually in the same ballpark, that's why I have multiple straps. I also find it fun. Like a small boy (middle aged boy albeit) with his multiple toys. I might plan what I'm going to wear for the day around a watch strap. I know. Juvenile. But hey, I like to feel young, haha.

I aspire to someday play in a different league like some of our wealthier forumers in this thread, but in the mean time, this small hobby gives me much pleasure.

Other people might simply like to give their watches different personalities by simple strap changes.

It's all good.

Caveat emptor, and research needed for more expensive items
Thus more stressful than buying new

In fact longines should be on the radar more than tissot.

Roamer, cammy should be on her radar looking for sub $100 vintage.

If one is wearing it and keeping it collectorable it's stressful.
Fun not so bad, if no care of Franken or non original parts

Bro how you maintain the polish links for the braclet until it look so new? Mine is like full of scratches even though how much I try to protect.

mine is also full of scratches especially the gold area.. maybe i always wear my watch to shower so very clean clean.

Maker and model: Favre leuba, Duomatic
Movement: Automatic, Swiss made quick set date call 908
Case: 37.5mm without crown

Can't really see much of the case back, pretty faded off but it reads swiss made , water resistant, favre leuba , stainless steel with its logo in the middle.

Thinking of changing to a blue strap, a brighter lighter tone from the dial. What do u guys think

The dial is kind of bright so a dark navy blue strap will contrast yet compliment the dial nicely.

Maybe this photo is more accurate in terms of colour. It looks more navy than bright actually right?

stressful cos you are paying for something you may not know whether it is original or remediated with non-authentic parts... esp expensive pieces
of cos researching and wearing it is half the fun...

sharing my latest pick-ups from Mumbai... 2 seikos each about USD30

Some defects, but thinking of trying to restore them with original parts.. which i think is the other half of the fun

If u want an affordable vintage try mido, enicar. Of u have the budget say usd$300-400 can look at omega or girard perregaux, zenith or a Vulcain alarm. Then again omega and zenith will be a rare find as prices do go up to usd$1k

Try eBay seller jozef2710, he has some NOS NIDOR, a died Swiss brand prices in the usd$50 range. I got a NIDOR from him and checked out find with a watchmaker.

long history from before 1900 as a watch part manufacturer and Certina was registered as a brand in Germany in 1939.

By the 60's was the pioneer in shockproof and waterproof mechanical watches and called it "DS concept" for "dual security".

Now part of the Swatch group. Strong brand equity and tech edge potential, onlookers anticipating for Swatch to make its move with Certina, looks like its just begun with new head recently installed. (coincides with swatch raising prices/cutting back of eta movements to reserve for own brands).

Turtle shell logo refers to a time when its divers and shockproof features were class leading.

I got the Favre Leuba because I thought the price is pretty reasonable, even if something goes wrong the most I could lose is only USD50 bucks.a562140 kor kor seems like quite the expert of vintages..seeing u have a fair collection of them.

Any recommendation for something affordable yet nice to have ?

what you did is a safe way to start and highly recommended so you don't get burned. i'm only beginning my journey too, so my advice is limited; the internet is your best friend. and there is no one way to go about doing this. some go by design, others by historical value etc.

for me its the discovery of the brand and history that is a big part of the experience, and makes owning the physical watch more enjoyable. also because of the high commitment in the search for each and every acquisition, it accumulates and you can see the collector in the collection (if that makes any sense ) .

knowledge on them..scared get ripped off or have a spend an obscene amount of money trying to service or repair them.

that's a risk with anything antique I suppose, so I tend to stick with the more popular collectibles with more common movements, so parts are easier to acquire. having said that modern omegas and rolexes aren't that cheap to maintain either!

Hmm, I can't visualise unless I see the strap. You will have better judgement when you see it. I'll go with the safe, albeit boring brown vintage strap.

Did consider that but I'm looking sub 40mm in size. Something along the size of Universal Geneve tri-compax.
