for a guy i'd suggest vintage seiko chronos - wide selection, built to last, parts readily available, and big enough by today's standards.

plus I observe that there are quite a few collectors already here in SG

I like this kind of Seiko watches. May I know where do you get them? And the price as well.

U getting the seamasters?
The 5xx or 7xx are collectable but costly, the. 6xx is cheaper at usd$300-400

Omega has a big collector base in sg.

For me in states, I can find those American vintage easy.
Buying online is always not easy.
I own vintage zenith, mido, etc.. Not a collector need to put my $$ into other things.
Would love a omega 1030 one of the last inhouse movement.

haha i want all those in your pic too. but got the seamaster cos at that time I was interested in chronos - the vintage speedmaster (e.g. mk 2, 3,4, 4.5) and this was my "transitional" period before getting into divers.

check with your wife first... i bought the 176 for my wife, then she complain too heavy for her wrist and cannot drive properly because she usually uses left hand for steering.

then she tried on a white gold daytona and say that it is very nice, perfect for her wrist. i was like, the white gold daytona is 3 times heavier than a 176 but you don't mind the weight??

for a datejust, she can get the same "look" by getting an all steel one and changing the bezel and dial. there are a couple of places to look for these, one of which is hjwatch at far east.

tell her the balance from $20k can use for an hermes bag.

depends on condition, rarity and most importantly the right buyer and seller...e.g. seller has to let go, or buyer just has to get particular colour...in this game beauty is really in the eye of the beholder and sometimes you may be able to get really good deals! best i've send closed at US$1200 for a 6105 diver, but many trades are done between USD150 to USD 350.

check out any online classifieds, forums etc, not necessarily the watch related ones. even here on hwz and vrzone you can find some already. ebay is a good place to start to get a sense of prices and condition.

profile (height) of case and fit also plays a part. the higher the centre of gravity and the looser the fit, the more it will be felt on the wrist.

the soccer timer prices have been escalating recently ... my guess is the world cup! lets see if prices drop after the competition.

banana diver really nice ... got my eye on that one but no budget, and i really have to look at "trimming the herd".

sm120 also good value. i like antique divers, but recently moved on to microbrands e.g. aquadive. for the same price, super features, same look, and enough history for me. they even have NOS vintage divers assembled recently from old stock parts! check them out http://www.aquadive.com/collection.html

1950s Swiss Watches collected in Europe

Hi RWC,

These are two pieces I pickup on my stopover in Europe, a quick dash out to my regular hunting ground for vintage pieces. With a bit of a luck, I got two pieces .

These models are 1950s, you can tell them by their lugs, tear drops design normally and the transition to 1960s model with the numerals remain,

The below one is a 9K pink rose sold gold watch with second hand at six. The yellow perspex comes with ageing. I normally do not change them if I still can read the numerals.

The second piece below was a gamble but it paid off. At first sight is a turn off with the melt down of the perspex like someone put a blow torch in front of it.

On returning home, I opened up the front case.....a big WOW....the dial is in perfect condition.

The saying goes "Do not judge the book by its cover, in our case, do not judge the watch by its cover"......

Maker and model: Favre leuba, Duomatic
Movement: Automatic, Swiss made quick set date call 908
Case: 37.5mm without crown

Can't really see much of the case back, pretty faded off but it reads swiss made , water resistant, favre leuba , stainless steel with its logo in the middle.

Thinking of changing to a blue strap, a brighter lighter tone from the dial. What do u guys think

For strap, maybe you can try the blue paros strap from K2 its a lighter colour than the dial. Im just wondering if a brown strap would go well with this watch...

Yes thought of visiting k2 too. Hehe my initial thought was blue lighter tone den the dial.maybe can see what uncle have also and make my choice from there hehe
