Feeling nostalgic today...

This is the first watch I ever bought for myself.

I remember it clearly. It was the early 90's and it was the first time I bravely quoted a 5 figure amount for a job and it was accepted. After I handed in the goods, I collected the cheque, went to the bank and cashed it out. From there, I went straight to a watch shop in Tampines.

It's an ETA movement for this model.

Speaks volumes about the reliability of ETA. 20+ years without a service and it still runs perfectly. Even if it fails, you know it won't cost much to repair and almost any watchmaker would be able to do it.

Better to send it for servicing though. From what I have read, watch keeping good time is no indication that everything is fine inside. Lubs could be dry, parts could be worn from grinding dry and corrosion could be inside.

Memories are the most priceless component of our material possessions, especially watches for me personally.. That's one reason why I don't really have a habit of buying/flipping (nah, it's because no $$), and it also helps to curb impulsive buys (though not completely!)

The panerai (dunno what model) seems to have more wrist presence.

actually luxury watch SAs are quite under employed, I think less than 10% of their time is spent serving customers. We should spend more time browsing and planning for the next hoot!

What makes you think those PPs are real?

I used to work in an environment with many many PRC students; most of their "Branded" stuff is AAA grade. Many of my ex-colleagues/clients from my days working in China peddle AAA watch, bag, shoes etc on Wechat too...

Anyway, i always feel bad browsing and trying on but never buy..though i admit i do that sometimes when i am bored on a weekend while shopping...But molesting PP, AP etc just make me feel poor...doubt i can ever convince myself to spend that kind of money on a watch. I think my max is around 10k nia..

That's why the good ones will develop good relationships with you by knowing what type of watches you like and update you when new models are released, or try to introduce new brands and models to you. My SA from Sincere does that ... can be very poisonous!!
