From what I read, trans fat (partially hydrogenated oils) are more or less gone from Singapore. AVA has banned it. Fully hydrogenated oil I thought is ok.
Really? I don't know that one.

But still makes no difference for me. I just do not eat vegetable oils. In order to extract any kind of oil from soy, rape seed (canola), corn, cottonseed, sunflower...etc, they have to use industrial solvents like hexane to do it. There are lab tests that show presence of hexane in oils that have been extracted by it. I'm simply not going to poison my body, and I strongly encourage my own family to do the same (though it very hard especially with the kids).

When you squeeze olives, coconut, palm fruit, you get oil. When you cut up some meat, there's oil. Those are the kinds of oil I'll eat.

so for cooking n frying, wat oil is good? olive oil is good, but expensive. my mother in law likes to fry, n i always thought canola or sunflower seed is beter.

24, almost every meal i eat have meat. dont eat breakfast though since my work starts at noon and i wake up at noon. so 2 meals a day. pants size around 27-28...

hmmmm by right when you don't eat breakfast you grow fat easily .... so i guess it's your age that keeps you slim.

I was told if you skip breakfast your body will think there isn't enough food and hence store whatever is eaten later as fats. makes sense to me.

also, with a good breakfast, your brain is more "alive" and works better. it does for me.

Canola (actual name is rape seed, they invented canola so it sounds better) was used to make engine lubricants before they discovered how to make it edible. It's an easy crop to grow cos pests would not touch it.

Sunflower seeds are small hard seeds that do not produce any oil without chemical extraction.

High smoke point fats are best.

Pork fat, duck fat, beef fat, ghee, then comes macadamia oil, avacado oil, coconut oil, olive oil.

In the first place, I would avoid frying food. But if no choice, I'd use an animal based fat rather than plant based fat. Plant based fats are best for cold use.

Stir frying at relatively low temperatures probably ok to use plant based fats.

So if you're like most people afraid of using animal fats, then the cost issue is going to be worse if you choose the most appropriate plant fat for frying.
