Hi All,

I am looking to buy a watch for my wife, its also an anniversary gift.

My questions for your expert advices:

1. the watch I am considering: Longines Watches : L5.158.5.89.7 Swiss Quartz Stainless Steel Women Watch? Is this a good buy?

2. Cortina Watch boutique list price $5990 (@wisma) SA gives me 20% discount but says he need to keep the invoice and will only give me the charge slip and warranty card. Any thing I should be wary of?

3. Picture:
bodying.sg/watches/images/longines/l5_158_5_89_7-big1.jpg

whats your wife style? is she adventurous enough to wear guy's watch? because to be honest, at 5k budget range there is alot of options. if shes not open to guy's watch. other options would be omega constellation, panerai 000, panerai 380, jaeger lecoultre reverso ladies.

1) Buy a watch she has been eyeing for the Longest of all time. Best is one whereby she has the $$$ to hoot but always hesitate

2) Since this is a full diamond quartz ladies watch. There's nothing much to ask about the watch itself. The watch speaks for itself but its the other things you will need to clarify.
- check with AD where are the diamonds are from and what is the rating of the diamonds.
(Its the same for buying items with crystals. You will wanna know which company the crystals are from)

- are there any certificates issued for the diamond to certify they are real diamonds
Some watch companies will issue diamond certificates as proof that these are real diamonds, which company, the rating etc
Example:
http://www.entique.com.au/wrist-wat...ndz37p1-ladies-watch-inc-diamond-certificate/
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-tag-heuer-link-diamond-embedded-861001.html

- is there a separate warranty for the diamonds if the diamonds drop or gets chipped. If not, does Longines's warranty cover the diamonds too.
- Demand for the watch to be replaced with a brand new battery
- Check for any potential scratches, markings, chips on the diamonds etc.

3) Watch Warranty
- Offered by who? Longines or Cortina
- Duration
- What are covered under the warranty
- What type of servicing are covered under the Warranty.

4) Do your homework too
-Are there better ladies watches in this price range?
-Are there nicer ones in this price range?
-Research more about this watch first before you head down to Cortina.

5) Be served
- Its a well-known Watch AD. Let the SA serve you. Their primary task is to try to get the $6000 from your pocket to their pocket. So it's their job to make you that "Damn Shiok, Damn good" feel. So if any one time you don't feel comfortable while you're in the shop, step out and go to other outlets.
- Ask him why you can't have the original invoice? Is something fishy going on?
- Ask him whether the 20% is the standard AD discount or is the 20% much more than the Standard ones.
- Ask him will Longines honour the Warranty with only the charge slip and not the official invoice from Cortina? Get him to call Longines on the spot to clarify and out it on loud speaker, if possible.

Lastly, enjoy the whole Experience.

Buying a gift for the most important woman in your life is never an easy task but at the same time, it could be alot of fun as well.

For the mods they are all online shops so a bit of googling and you will know what's possible. Once you see something you like and identify the source feel free to write directly to enquire. That's how these guys run their business; don't be shy to ask for for something not available too.

Do you know the model of he Seiko in the picture? Just make sure it's something still available and doesn't cost a bomb. Let's us know how you progress, these things have a way of catching on like Wildfire, don't be surprised if find yourself some faithful followers in your project! So post back here!

And if you find the exact strap on that Rolex let me know, I'd like to get the same too :)

Good morning to you!

Right now I'm planning a trip overseas, so it'll be a while before I get started on this 'project'.

DSCN6932.jpg

This is a SKX033K mod.

I saw one similar one on yobokies1's photobucket

He says it is a "SKX031/033K mod with M-Benz hands, Rollie black bezel insert and domed ar coated sapphire"

Don't know if I'd be getting a rolex strap. I'd say yobokies1 mod looks great, just need the pepsi bezel replaced and add in a nato strap and BOOM.

Happiness.

Seems like SKX031 is no longer in production. Anybody knows if watch shops sell this model?

Hi Donten,

Thanks for the advice.
She is not open to wear a guys watch.
The watch is meant to be a surprise gift.

And I ever heard her saying she like ultra small rectangular faced timepieces.

Hence my selection on longines, but being a first time buyer. I just do not know where to look.

I will take a look at those brands and model you mentioned.

This is very helpful.

Thanks!
