RXW was controversial brand when it first came out. early panerai adopters yelled "fake"! but the finishing and quality was nothing short of superb, combining both swiss and jap qualities.

RXW was controversial brand when it first came out. early panerai adopters yelled "fake"! but the finishing and quality was nothing short of superb, combining both swiss and jap qualities.

i paid a deposit for the leoncino, eta nov 2014. my first NZ watch.

not just looks but also very good finishing and quality as you can see from the pictures. well it was good enough to threaten panerai who sought to sue RXW or RockXWatch in Japan.

high quality homage?!

this was more than 10 years ago and "homages" wasn't a distinct category. the modern Panerai as we know it now was just recently relaunched, and curiously they were themselves paying homage to the original Panerai

in short the Japanese courts ruled against RockXWatch in Japan and this took momentum out of their business as an upcoming microbrand.

In retrospect, they were the martyrs as soon after came all kind of homages of the "marina militaires", including mushrooming of Panerai fakes from europe to asia, after the event got huge attention in the internet forums.

A pity though - RXW made well designed watches with superb quality. right up to today you will here Panerai fanboys callout out RXW as fakes/cheap knockoffs, but they have to contend with the likes of Parnis who are now considered a legal business.
