50% rule is old, new rule since 2013 is 60%
"Swiss Made" Now Means More Swiss Made | aBlogtoWatch

China gov thingy any source? That's recent as in this yr?

i read from some interviews with chinese watch manufacturers, e.g. dongfeng/seagull. probably not this year, will post link if i can find it.

if you follow the 60% swiss rule there was a huge debate within the swiss parliament themselves. and was only going to be applied in the watch industry, not trains etc. and took years for the ratio to be upped from 50%.

watch aficinados and WIS welcome it to support the whole swiss idea, but swatch and the bigger watch groups were under threat as 50% made in swiss could be conferred as 50% made in china too :) if china required it to be by way of import legislations.

counterarguments is that 60% made in switzerland will see the end of cheap swiss watches (e.g. mondaine), and an influx of chinese owned swiss run factories.

also this 60% rule excludes costs of raw materials e.g. steel... as switzerland does not have raw materials, and now includes costs of RnD so if you ask me, very open to creative accounting.

hey guys! what do you all think about the 40mths installment free at THG? i think the catch here is that there will be no more standard discount on the watch itself which is 10-15% perhaps. i am eyeing a watch in the range of ~20k.
what if you are able to generate returns of >15% in 40mths with your capital instead of paying off the amount in full? should you take up the installment plan?

Perhaps if you need to use that money to generate income in the next 40 months, a watch purchase should not be a priority?

Nobody really needs a watch. It should be a purchase that you can write off, like a great meal in a fantastic restaurant.

Just my $0.02.

Hehe don't spend so much on watch in the first place? And screw the AD, this instalment thing is no difference to them one. They still get the money at one go from the card issuing bank. It's not like those 40 months but pay only 36 months type of deal, then yes I believe the AD has to bear the cost of the promotion.

My ex-colleague bought a watch from local AD using instalment plan and got better than the usual standard discount...sales guy said why not?

In fact when I was making my own purchase recently, THG sales keep asking me want to use instalment plan?

it really depends on what your opportunity cost is. if u can put the 20k to better use presently it is always optimal to go for the IPP. also, u shd try bargaining all your way for max discount before declaring u are gonna pay with IPP :s13:

like what balzebulb bro said, THG doesn't give a hoot whether u are paying in full or instalments because the issuing bank will still pay them in full upon settlement.. so all that "aiya i can't give u X% discount because u are using IPP" is bull.

Yeap. Don't really make a diff to the AD if you pay IPP or not. Probably the salesman want to earn more comm.

Any advice on where I can buy nice good quality leather straps?
