Just came back from a visit to the Seiko Boutique at JEM.

Was completely blown away by the Grand Seiko watches on display. Amazing clarity and classy designs with the smoothest second hand sweep I have ever seen!

Just when I wanted to take my wallet out for that final big-item purchase of the year, I was brought back to Earth by the huge "Seiko" name on the dial. Just couldn't justify paying a BNIB price for a Rolex Explorer 2 42mm for a Seiko ...

i feel the reason to buy branded stuff is not because of the brand, but the workmanship behind the brand. look past the logo, maybe you be a happier man.

Must overcome the brand ***** in you. I find that the quality and workmanship of the watch is very good. Still do not know how durable it will be, my old Rolex (1990) is still running well with only 1 servicing in early 2000.

I saw this Seiko shop in Vivo City displaying some GS models. Sorry not familiar but they definitely show case some!

not many people buy GS, and of those who buy only certain % flip (applies to other brands too)

if you can't then don't...at least you are able to admit the value you attach to popular brands.

Totally agree, preowned Grand Seikos are a rare commodity since the beginning of this product line.

GMT for a GMT, it is hard for me to justify paying the same amount for a Grand Seiko as compared to a Rolex Explorer 2. I'm not that much of a brand *****, but Rolex's illustrous history and proven track record have won my heart for sure. Besides, it is said that a higher beat rate entails faster wear and tear in relative terms.

At the end of the day, I'm convinced that a preowned Grand Seiko makes for a better value deal, if they're available that is

I got mine pre-own for a good price.

Do keep a look out for pre-own GS, SGROC has some.

I went to Osaka and lucky me found a ad on tv on pre own sales event held by 20+ stores all over the country. Still can bargain plus no tax

very hard to get pass the brand whoring mentality.. seiko vs rolex.. at the same price point the choice is clear cos deep inside our hearts there's a little wanting ppl to notice the luxury piece on your wrist.

and this could possibly be the reason why i would never own a grand seiko.

if i had unlimited funds to burn however, will definitely consider getting one.

yes rolex king for value retention, and I think this is the main reason for most singaporeans whether they mention it or not

seiko is a young brand in the premium fashion business with low brand recognition.

innovations wise no one can argue that since the 60's seiko has been up there with the best competing on multiple fronts (hi beat, chrono, diver, new titanium and ceramic case) where the swiss can only focus in one area and of course seiko does EVERYTHING in house - including lume. While the swiss had to live off each other e.g. Rolex with Zenith movement. Maybe need more marketing like this THE HISTORY OF SEIKO DIVER'S WATCHES | SEA | Prospex | SEIKO WATCH CORPORATION

but the luxury fashion premium segment has got nothing to do with that - its about exclusivity and some far flung aspirational concept...totally against the Seiko spirit which is about functionality and practicality - about now, not for the next generation
