Anyone here kena before rubber strap from seiko divers break into half or "disintegrate"?

My dad has a few seiko divers all break into half after not wearing it for a prolong period. Anyone knows why?

all rubber oxidizes and breaks down over time. slower if you use them, faster if left in a dark drawer....
