Wow that's some great info! Thanks! But I must have a date function and if the Daytona does not have it, then it's just the Submariner or Sea Dweller.
Yachtmaster II was the rolex that caught my interest. But after a while I find it looks kinda kiddish, or not so rolex-designed leh. And the words "Yachtmater II" on the bezel looks kind of.......cheap?
Divers wise I prefer the sub over the sea dweller. The latter has too many markers on the bezel IMHO. the deepsea is another story.
daytona oh yes......love and hate it...... 12 months relationship. NO DATE. wapiang. I couldnt take it after a while also. and who actually uses the chrono function?
30k is a lot of money for a watch. or are you a multiple watch person? or you just want/need one single solid watch?
I'm making some assumptions here - you want to get the classic rolex; something that rolex is known for?
My own preference would be the Black sub (with or without date, your choice...) for a casual/sporty watch....
(okok there is no sub with no date; only SUB and SUB WITH DATE)
I dunno if you can get a brand new daydate with the rest of the money. yes yes uncle ah pek so orbit full gold watch but that's what I know rolex for. People associate gold watch with rolex, no? You can always swap out the bracelet for a leather strap (they have that option for the DD2), and it's a very classic piece. I do miss my DD.
if you wanna spend it all on just one solid rolex..... then it's a different story altogether.
my two cents.
right now I'm living on two watches most of the time. the nautilus for functions and events; the pam305 for casual. And they fulfill most criteria already.
Maybe you can consider the new sea dweller 4000 ? Dial size of the sub , model is of course sea dweller and with date. Dial can chg colour one i think.
Well within your budget.
That's very detailed and also roughly made me made up my mind. I just one a one solid piece of Rolex that does not need to be so bling bling. Right now I have a TAG Aquaracer, Seiko chrono and a few G-Shocks but want a really good Rolex to top it up.
Guess my choice would be just the divers series but the Deepsea seems rather chunky.

At $30k and if the purpose is to get something special do you really want a rolex?
agreed.
for 30k can look at AP, PP(maybe the aquanaut), JLC........that was what I was thinking as well.
agree on this too.
@snoweagle: dun restrict yourself to rolex. its not the best watch brand in the world. its just being marketed to be the best. every uncle, auntie, boys and girls know rolex thats all. for the best of quality, u have pp, vc, jlc etc which the bros here listed. only thing is others might not share ur happiness and appreciation of the watch when they haven't learnt of these brands yet.
Basically you have 3 choices:
1. Submariner 116610
2. SD4000 (latest 2014 collection but no the dial does not change color)
3. DSSD (black dial or the newer black/blue dial)
Go to an AD and try them on. Some people find the sub too small, some find the DSSD too big. Up to individual preference, wrist size, comfort, etc etc.

yeah man.
just to repeat my story for snoweagle:
last dec I wanted to get a YG GMT master II. then my SA told me why not a PP? price not that far away and they happen to have stock for the 5712 (I was told it's rare).
the rest is history.
30k can get you the steel JLC perpetual calendar IIRC.

Just a Rolex but anything that costs less is fine, I can save the rest of the money.![]()
