Been following this thread for the past week or so, very interesting read and highly poisonous.

Anyway, would just like to check if bros/sis have any experience to share on buying watches from HK recently?

I am eyeing the new pelagos, hopefully will have time to look for it while I'm there later this month.

At the risk of being totally out of my league here with all the high end watch lovers, can I trouble some helpful men to help with my question? I'm looking to buy a watch for my husband who is an assistant GM.

Unfortunately, I am only hoping to spend 1k at most as we are saving up for our home and renovation costs (2years later and we do not want to take any loans), we have yet to go on our honeymoon (due to timing issues and me still being on probation at my new job) and I'm just generally not about spending big money on stuff (I don't even buy branded stuff for myself). :s13:

Is 1k enough to get a proper watch befitting of his position or should I consider increasing my budget?

Also could you suggest a few brands I could look at as well that are in this range?

A little background on my husband is that he is not into branded goods as well and his most expensive items on his person is probably the prada wallet and belt that I gave him in the past 3 years. However, he has mentioned that he feels he should get a "proper" watch and joked about getting a Rolex (at least I think he was joking) one day. His last watch was a Seiko that his brother gave him (like I said.. not into brands... =:p), hope that's enough information.

I know nuts about watches so any and all help would be much appreciated! TIA!
Can consider the SARB065 from seiko, can still get from seiyajapan

Seiko dress watches
Personally I have SARB035, and it's great as a dress watch!
(Black dial SARB033)
Larger and shiny face SARB065.
Up budget Seiko Brightz SDGM001.
Or SRP701K1, which is usually around $382 locally.

Seiko Sea Urchin
Consider the Seiko SNZF17K, which is a sub-$200 Rolex Submariner look-alike. This has lume, WR100m, and flat face.

SKX007 too, but crown is at 4 o'clock, something to take note.
SNZH55K has a bulged up face...

Orient
Orient Bambino which looks quite good but non-hackable and non-handwind. A few variants there, so have fun choosing, price should be around $200 range.
Orient Star, some with blue dials which looks quite nice.
There are also Orient dress watches with metal bracelets.

In any case
Just walk into any watch shop found commonly in shopping malls and just hoot a decent looking one, very likely it would be less than 1k.

Or visit the super well-known watch paradise The Bencoolen, in Bugis.
The watches there are really many many. Take your time to look through!

There are also Seiko boutiques in e.g. Vivocity, so you can go take a look at the Grand Seikos, and see if you want to up the budget.
