Thanks for sharing this info.

Curious to know what happens if one proceed to buy from these phantom sellers? The purpose is purely advertisement?

When you do a search for phones with certain specification key words such as "MTK6582" and/or "Quad core" etc. and then try to sort them in price ascending order, you will see quite a number of phones at ridiculous low price relative to sellers who have sold the most (sort by orders).

However, the low price sellers all have zero feedback rating and apparently have made zero sales.

At the minimum, they have made people take note of certain phones which satisfy the key words and make them likely to do further research on the phones' specifications and actual prices. (This was what it successfully enticed me to do when I wasn't familiar with aliexpress at first).

Apparently, these fake sellers probably have another account/shop selling those phones at "normal" prices and so when you do further research on the advertised phones, you will likely come across their actual shops and sales.

For e.g. this fake seller probably has another account/shop selling Lenovo and CBT.

wholesale 100% Original Lenovo A820 Android phone MTK6589 Quad Core 4.5 inch Android GPS Smart phone black white from xin ning

If you try to buy any of those ridiculous low priced sales, may be it can't proceed or will tell you no stock or never ship at all and eventually just automatically refund by aliexpress when you open a dispute or they will send your an item different from your order.

If the item does not arrive and you fail to open a dispute within the protection period, your money will just go to the fake seller and there is no recourse.

At the end of the day, there is no free lunches. If an offer is too good to be true, don't waste your time and effort and risk your money.

There is no substitute for doing proper research.

Yes. to add on, TD-SCDMA is used by China Mobile, the largest provider in China. These phones will be advertised as Mobile Version (移动版). WCDMA versions (used by China Unicom) are typically advertised as 联通版. This is very important.

Most WCDMA phones sold in China are dual band, using frequencies 2100 and 900, which are supported in most countries apart from countries in North and South America.

China use TD-SCDMA for 3G but most of the phones sold on aliexpress is WCDMA for 3G because the target customers of Aliexpress are outside China.

WCDMA is the most commonly used outside China.

Singapore use WCDMA for 3G and so there is no problem to buy phones from aliexpress.

However, on aliexpress, there are still a small number of phones which is not WCDMA.

So better to check the listed specification first before clicking buy.

Many people have complained that they didn't manage to buy 1 after 3 attempts.

lol, this one not counted.

I'm always the laggard. Don't dare to try things when it's new. Maybe next time I'll try to see if I can snatch one.

In the wake of China cheap branded phones and miui popularity, this may be the answer for elderlies with big screen, big fonts and interface.

Lenovo A880 smart phones MTK6582 Quad Core 1.3GHz 6 inch QHD 1GB RAM 8GB Dual SIM WiFi WCDMA GPS
Lenovo A880 smart phones MTK6582 Quad Core 1.3GHz 6 inch QHD 1GB RAM 8GB Dual SIM WiFi WCDMA GPS-in Mobile Phones from Electronics on Aliexpress.com
S$80 from AliExpress.

Flashed with:
ROM LENOVO A880 MIUI v5 | [Custom] add the 02/14/2014 on Needrommiui v5 on lenovo a880.

With some xda support too. Hooting one.

didn't use aliexpress before. Is it easy to import things from there? Or it's just as complicated as taobao/amazon/etc

Depends on the delivery persons. The guy did not call me before delivering, he just appears before my door. It seems like the guy before me got called.

It could be that I got my phone after 6pm so he assumes someone is home.
