took awhile but not that long. i disabled all my services, rebooted before i upgraded. but after upgrade, response seems to be slow...

But speed is very fast, +20% if you use EXT3 file system.

after confirm with thecus,them recomend you could download the Trasmission BT module with V1.00.06,the N3200Pro V3.0 firmware will release at end of July.

Actually I'm using some beta 2.00.1 firmware from the beta firmware site since I got the set in August-Sep 2010. The beta firmware was taken off the site though.

I'll wait for the new firmware to come out before upgrading. Good to know my NAS Model hasn't been abandoned by thecus.

I use alot less BT now and more Fileserve and Megaupload Filesonic and Hotfile. So I hope the DLM works with these filehosts too.

erm, spee to access the web interface seems to have slowed down alot. as for file system, I have yet to try. been pretty busy.

One other thing i noted with a slow down is transmission. I can't download more than 15Kb, when I used to do >1Mb. Uploading also slowed to a crawl. I limit my upload at 600Kb but now I can't even hit 20Kb...
I think the new transmission has got some problems.
Tried reverting to the old transmission but it wont run...

I have a N4100Pro and 1 of the hdd is showing warning on the hdd status when i check it yesterday.

If i wan to replace the hdd what should i do?

do i need to power down the unit? or i can just remove the drive.

Hi all

I have encountered some issues and I like seek the advice of the experts here

One of my hard disks encountered this problem for the first time when I attempted to shut down my NAS. The problem as indicated on the log is "hard disk encountered I/O problem." Anyone of you encountered this before? I am wondering whether there is anything wrong with the hard disks?

I went to check my hard disks using the admin portal. It actually stated "Warning" for one of the hard disks. On further probe into that hard disk, it actually indicated "Current Pending Sector Count". Is there something wrong with this hard disk in terms of bad sector? Do I need to change this hard disk?

Lastly. I am on Raid 5 and my NAS actually stated that the Raid is healthy at the moment. So for example, if I want to replace the problem hard disk, can I retain all my files and rebuild the raid 5 back?
Usually how long will it take to rebuild a Raid after a hard disk replacement?

Hope someone can give some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Yes u need to replace the disk. Being raid 5 u've a disk parity so your raid pool will be in degraded state when u pull the disk. If u have a extra disk u can rebuild the pool immediately but it takes quite a while. Try not to wait for rma while leaving your pool in degraded state else another disk fails, you may suffer data loss

Just saw this thread and decided to take a pic of my 4100PRO. Apologies for dark picture, its 3am now and this was since the last firmware update. Not sure if new firmware will make it faster but this workhorse had been working reliably alone in the corner of house, in fact this the first time I had inspected it in months.

For copying pf files from PC hard disk to NAS and vice versa, my speeds hover around 9.XX MB/Seconds.
Is it considered normal or considered slow? Are there any ways I can increase the transfer speeds?

By the way, I am using a DIR 655 router. From my understanding, it is a gigabyte router!

How long did you take to upgrade your firmware? Mine took like ages.. Probably 30mins.

It takes awhile but I don't seem to recall taking that long, about 10 mins in all includign reboot. Which unit are you using? The newer units with OLED updates takes longer.

Which model are you referring to? Also few factors will affect NAS performance.
1. 7200rpm HDD with will be faster than 5400rpm. (Platter count also affects also but not obvious as rpm)
2. Depends on the raid build and file system - raid0 will be faster than raid5 or raid1.
3. 5-disks NAS models will be faster than 2-disk model.
4. An empty NAS will also be faster than one that's 80% full due to HDD mechanical limitations.
5. Last but not least, router Lan-Lan performance but again not significant if already on gigabit connections.

Did you use Jumbo frames on your connections? Easiest way to increase transfer speed is to use Jumbo frames.
Have to set on both PC and NAS settings.
Lan connection properties>configure>advance>Jumbo frames.

I own a n3200pro with 3 x 1tb hdd. I wanna upgrade to 3 x 2tb hdd. How do I go about doing it without the need of transfering my data or i need to move my data some where? At the moment my nas is on raid5.

hi ZAX13, you could update firmware to V3.00 and it will support on-line RAID expansion and step by step to change the 2TB HDD when each one HDD rebuild. the HDD pls refer to Thecus website HDD recommend list.

another way buy a new Thecus NAS maybe N3200XXX or other, through Rsynce remote back up from N3200PRO to new unit.this time you just change new HDD but NAS also aroud 2~3 year live time.it also need to think about upgrade time.

hi bros and sis, i think my N4100pro is dead after the firmware update. the usb reset to default boot method doesnt work as it is stuck at Booting... and doesnt boot into the usb. can anyone let me know where can i bring my n4100pro for servicing or where can i buy a new DOM to replace the badly flashed one?
