I'm trying to use transmisson module for bittorent and its downloading to this /raid folder that I cannot find.

Any idea how I can access this folder.

Really newb user here.

If SSH does this mean I use WInscp and try to ftp my way into the NAS?

SSH is not FTP, it's a remote shell protocol. It's the secure version of Telnet. You can use PuTTY as a client for that.
It does not show you directories like FTP, it's like a remote terminal you type commands.

I'm not sure if transmission automatically creates the folder for you? maybe it has not been created yet?
but if it has you probably cannot see it because the NAS' own programme maintains an index of directories created from it's Web GUI. and since shares are allocated from there as well your PC might only be able to view those created outside of the NAS' software. Quick way would be to SSH or FTP in and check the directories from there.

Erm somehow I used winscp and put in the ip address of the nas

used the username of root and put the password in

I could see it creates a /raid folder for me.

I copied the file path for /root/music and put into transmission.

Managed to download into the correct folder for the NAS

I'm also wondering how come the NAS USB ports cannot read my usb harddisk formatted in NTFS. It detects a harddisk alright but when I browse into the usbhdd folder or try to copy using usbcopy. The admin webinterface does not let me choose a harddisk to copy from.

Anyway to convert my harddisk into the linux format that the NAS can understand so that I can copy my existing data over without losing the data in the usb harddisk?

Oh and another thing i noticed for some reason songs copy over much faster than actual installtion files from my game cds. Why is that? Could someone elighten me? Thanks.

With regards to the N503, I have connected it to a TPlink gigabyte router with cat 6 cables.However tranfering via giga ethernet from my computer, files is still the same speed as 10/100 router. Can anyone advise what is the problem? thks

Does it show a 1 GBps link on your computer? You can check it through the network adapter page.

2 things to verify
1) do you have gigabit network card?
2) did you enable gigabit on your router?

Hi! I'm a owner of Thecus N3200Pro and this NAS is currently using 1 x WD Green 32mb 1GB harddisk. I know it is under untilise....

Now, I wanna add another harddisk, and found out that all WD Green 1GB had change from 32mb to 64mb. Can I just buy a 64mb and pair it with my current 32MB as Raid 1. Will they be any issue?

yes to Q1 and for Q2 there is nothing to enable.Btw what is the average transfer rate in terms of mb/sec for gigabit lan?

I just bought the 4100 pro this afternoon.
Some questions:

1) I have an existing pair of Raid 1 500GB array in my PC.
I tried to plug one of the HDD to the NAS but it was not usable.
Do I need to create JBOD for this drive in order to make it useable on the NAS?
Creating a JBOD will wipe out the HDD data right?
How can I migrate the pair of Raid 1 from my PC to the NAS

2) How do I mount a USB drive and make it usable on the NAS?
I had plugged my 250GB 2.5" drive to the NAS, however I cannot find the way to see it and enable it.

3) Do I need to shutdown the NAS before turning the power off?
Or simply turn off the power? Will it cause data corruption?

Can distro feedback to Thecus to post an update to the FTP server that will allow users to change the PASV PORT range?

Or is there a predefined one that is relatively small range? Cannot set up remote FTP properly if the passive port range cannot be set

I have got the N4100Pro (with 3 x 2TB WD EARS20 HDD in RAID 5 configuration) at the last Comex.

Been performing extensive benchmark on the NAS for the past few days and was terribly disappointed with the results.

The result was nowhere near the result published on thecus website for N4100pro:
Read:57.1MB/s
Write:44.5MB/s
Intel NAS Performance Toolkit V1.7.0

What I have got from the Intel NAS performance toolkit, NAS tester and real world file copy results were not even 50% of the stated performance.
My results are:
Read:25-30MB/s
Write:9-15MB/s

I had tried using different computers, different OS (Vista, WinXP Pro), different links (cross cable, gigabit switch), different cables (CAT5E/6 cables), tweak windows registry, NIC settings, change NIC drivers, disable NAS/OS services, use FTP, use different strip size, use jumbo frames etc .... all give similar results.

I wonder if I have got a lemon hardware?
How did thecus manage to get the speed as stated? RAID 0 with 15k rpm harddisk?
