just got n2200 as budget NAS. first step into NAS, got it for 199 + 80 for a hitachi 1TB.

So far so shiok! SPeed is not the best, but its MORE than enuff if u just simply wanna:

1. Save big media files from ur desktop
2. Stream movies to ur media player (connect to my TV)
3. Share stuff with other users on the network.

HOWEVER: MUST have gigabit LAN (don't bother trying to xfer via wifi)

Im getting abt 15-20 mbps on avg when copying all my media files to and fro. (usual file size 50mb-1gb). I find this speed OK because i just copy and continue surfing / do other things. The copying in itself doesn't slow my system down (however, if u copy via Wifi, for some reason my windows started lagging while copying)

At this moment im moving abt 100gb of my media onto the NAS....might take awhile heh heh... but no noticeable slow down on my PC. Also simultaenously running BT that is also saving into the NAS. Will update again if my 100gb goes thru successfully.


Next things i wanan do:
-i wanna try to 1 touch USB hdd copy with my USB hdd which has all my photos inside... Will update on how this goes!
-install slim server to stream stuff directly to my squeeze box
-install a BT client on the NAS> right now i using utorrent and saving directly to NAS, but am considering putting the BT directly on the NAS instead...

regarding N2200 BT download, you could download the latest Thecus BT module in its website transmission module.http://www.thecus.com/download/module/transmission.v2.11.2_N2200_N0204.zip this BT featuer is good.

Right now i only see turtle mode.

Want to see the settings button as well.

Speed of 15-20 is actually quite disappointing. I'm getting 15Mb/s on my 1 Tb WD MyBookWorld (which was $159 at last PC show and likely same price or lower at the next show). I had always thought that the N2200 would deliver speeds in the high 20+Mbps range. So I use it for backing up my documents folder rather than huge files as the included sync software is pretty good.

My DIY NAS using old PC gets 100Mb/s both directions and costs less than a NAS that can achieve that sort of speed so I use that for larger file movement.

Any knows when will TimeMachine support be available for N3200Pro? Now that even N2200 also got TimeMachine support, N3200Pro should have also right?

Also, I am currently on 3 x 1 TB harddisk Raid 5 configuration on N3200Pro and if I want to upgrade to 3 x 2 TB, I just have to put in one 2 TB harddisk, rebuild, followed by 2nd 2 TB harddisk and rebuild and finally move on to 3rd 2 TB harddisk and rebuild to expand the raid right?

your require feature in N3200PRO can't do it, all in N0503 is available.

Hi all,... i just bought a Thecus N2200 and is it working well.

but i need to move a big chunck of data from my old prestigo externo NAS to thecus N2200 NAS.

is it possible to schedule a job in N2200 to pull data from prestigo externo NAS and store it in thecus N2200 NAS via FTP?

I am aware of the Nsync and Rsync features on the NAS but not sure whether they can be used with the prestigo externo NAS that only supports samba & FTP.

any advise from the bros here?

if cannot .. then worst case have to manually copy the data out of the prestigo externo NAS and store it on PC and there after copy it to thecus N2200. I'll have to leave the PC on if i use this method and the data transfers are quite slow as i am on a normal network (ie:not gigabit network)

Better to stick with compatible drives as per list. the F4s are currently being qualified by Thecus engineers.

Damn, I got 4 2TB WD20EARS (64mb) instead of the 2TB WD20EADS (32mb) that is approved on the list for 4100pro.

Think I should return the drives? But I don't see how an increased cache will affect anything..
