greyzone:
The problem is DHT which can make the oil glands become overactive producing more oil than necessary. This overproduction of oil clogs the follicles that's why thin hairs (vellus) or almost transparent hairs are produced. Eventually the follicles get completely blocked and closes. Once a follicle closes, it is irreversible.
Overtime the effects of too much oil production of the sebaceous glands will block the follicles producing fine hairs instead of thick and dark ones. Eventually this will clog the follicles stopping it from growing hair which leads to hair loss.
correct me if i read wrongly. isn't the above statement clearly mean oil clogging follicles is the direct cause for hair loss?

The problem is DHT which can make the oil glands become overactive producing more oil than necessary.
This process involves the DHT that's why I said oil clogging the follicles leading to hair loss is only partly true because the main culprit is DHT.
again, the above statement only state that DHT is the main cause for over production of sebum. also, i don't see any other mode of action mention which DHT cause hairloss in your post.

it like saying Car A leak oil on the road. Oil on the road cause Car B to skip. according to your logic, Car A is the cause of the whole incident. putting law aside, the real cause in this accident should be the oil which reduce friction causing the car to skip while Car A cause the oil to be on the road. i believe most people who read your post will get similar idea as me.

let put aside whether oil clogging of follices is the main cause or not. from wat i read so far, the main point that i can comprehen is hairloss is due to oil clogging follicles which is cause by DHT. in this case, isn't wat you mean clogging problem is the cause while DHT is the trigger?

what i trying to bring across is that there is no creditable evident that i came across which show clogging of follicles is direct reason at all for MPB.

Hi Iso juz wanna ask u a qn :)
I've been using propecia for 4.5 mths already. Although there is noticably fewer hairloss i.e. 5 hair on pillow + 5X2 each shower, I am still experiencing overall hairloss. Shld I switch over to dut or do u tink I shld wait longer to c whether propecia is enough for my condition tat is able to maintain my hair volume.
Thanks :D

Did u have a before and after pic of ur hair for comparison? 4.5 months might be a little short imo, most success stories that i studied took around 8-12months++ for the full blown effect of the drug. Since u said hairloss is reduced, i would suggest sticking to it for a while more. If cost is the problem, u can always switch to cheaper alt like proscar or fincar. I'm no expert, take my advice with a pinch of salt. And i haven't done enuff studies for dut, Iso might be able to answer u. Good luck.

Query: Does anyone uses any hair conditioner...?
Will it help or will it make it worst...?

Anyone knows...?

I read somewhere that conditioner is not good for thin hair. makes the hair even thinner/flatter and gives it less volume.

Stallone:

Dut = dutasteride or brand name is Avodart

it side effect should be similar to fin if any. i don't experience any side so far.

it is about 50times stronger than fin in theory.

usernamebarley:

sorry, i can't remember the name of the generic brand. i saw it @ mustafar shopping centre @ serangoon road.

fin should be safe for those planning to be father. it is use by thousand of man without much problem.

CoffeeKing:

generic is the same thing as brand name. so it should be equally effective.

Rushifaa:

conditioner should not have any effect on your hairloss. unless some of the ingredient is harmful or allegy to your scalp. also, some conditioner might clog your pore making topical like minoxidil less effective if you are using any. other than that, i doubt it make any different.

on cosmetic level, different brand have different effect. some is formula to add volume to your hair while other might weight your hair down.

overall, i think it safe to use. just your personally liking.

i suggest if u have mpb, better to get the root of the problem, then maintaining ur hair texture. ur hair can feel silky and soft but yet thinning and balding? guess that is not anyone of us want too.

so proceed on to to the 2 FDA approved drugs instead.

any success story of using laser comb/brush?

I have been using laser comb from amazing laser comb for over 6 months now...
No visible effects :(

I have been taking Proscar from JB City Square Apex Pharm for 6 months now...
Currently I am shredding around 30 strands of hair per day due to stress...
Makes me wonder if the Proscar I gotten could be fake...

i was thinking about getting the comb... but now the webby features a 8-laser instead of 6. but if there isn't any genuine positive feedbacks, i will rather spend that money on fin instead..

u already mention u losing hair due to stress? but bro.. from what i read everywhere, the full result can only be concluded at least 8 months of usage and if 12 months still no improvement, guess u would need to proceed on..

lol i was always thinking whether the fin i taking is fake or not too lol. i taking generic type, finax, lor, that's why.

I have been the amazing lazer comb since last oct'07..should be about 5mth by now.. What i can say is that there is not much visible improvement in the volume of hair.. But it do increase the speed of growth on existing hairs. Hair shedding is under control for me case as i started to eat healthy, more exercise, get less stress.. Now my aim is to get regrow of hair but i think i will be a big challenge.
BTW, i'm 32yr old this yr.

thanks for the feedback bro.. guess what it does is only to help existing hair grow faster but will never improve hair count or simulate dormant follicles?

hair shedding under control is more impt.. guess regrow of hair must wait for HM instead.. just a word, u r never too old to grow hair :)

Hi

Is there anyone who's taking both propecia and also cholesterol medication? I read somewhere that propecia may not to good for those suffering from bad cholesterol.

Anyone care to share their experience?

I am also currently wondering what are some of you guys' experience with those hair treatment centres. I am currently into my 3rd mth with BJ101.

Paid a lot of money, so I better stick with it. Intially see some improvement in hair loss but after they switched the hair tonic in the 3rd mth, my scalp started itching badly so they had me lay off the tonic for a while. I have not resumed their tonic but now find that my hair is falling faster than when I first started 3 mths ago.

Lots of fine hair falling and I can feel them dropping against my ears and neck, a bit worried that this is not normal. Have done blood tests and shows nothing wrong. Went back to the hair treatment centre and they told me to quickly resume their tonic.

Anybody have this experience of abnormal shedding after abt 3-4 mths at these hair treatment centrres?

as far as i guess, no one in this thread went to any hair treatment centre, based on the helpful facts that some of them give. the fact is those centres exist to earn money from u, not to help u in any way. from the feedbacks of others whom i view from this thread, they are money suckers. the treatments they give won't do any good to stop dht from miniaturising ur hair follicles nor to revitalise ur follicles.

i suggest to stick to FDA approved methods instead, taking of fin and applying of topical minoxidil. perhaps to add nizoral shampoo in ur regimen as it shows anti-androgenic effect similar to minoxidil.

i read that most medicines do not interfere with Propecia, perhaps u would want to talk to ur doctor who is prescribing u the cholesterol medication and propecia.

Dutasteride.

same side effects.

currently brand is called avodart. manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. not approved for hair loss yet, still under studying.

why dut should be better is ; Avodart® is the new medication from GlaxoSmithKline for reducing DHT. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the main hormone linked to hairloss. Propecia® prevents one of two enzymes from being converted into DHT and blocks 2/3 of the DHT production. The new medication Avodart® blocks both enzymes in the body that convert into DHT and reduces overall DHT production by over 93%.
Avodart® at this dosage reduced DHT by 93.1-93.6% after 12-months on the medication. Scalp DHT was decreased 38% for Propecia®/Finasteride compared to 54% for 0.5mg Dutasteride.

Here's more info from uptodate.com

Dutasteride, an inhibitor of both types I and II 5-alpha-reductase, is FDA approved for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

A randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 416 men compared a range of doses of dutasteride with finasteride 5 mg daily. Hair growth showed a dose-response effect with dutasteride, and after 12 and 24 weeks of therapy, dutasteride 2.5 mg daily was more effective than finasteride. However, this is a high dose of dutasteride; the standard dose for benign prostatic hyperplasia is 0.5 mg daily. In this study, 13 percent of men treated with dutasteride 2.5 mg daily reported decreased libido.

Longer term studies of safety and efficacy are needed before this high dose of dutasteride can be recommended for the treatment of hair loss in men. Dutasteride has also been tried in women, however, like finasteride, it is contraindicated in women of reproductive potential.

And here's some info about minoxidil

Minoxidil — Patients considering use of minoxidil should be advised of the following:

* Explain that minoxidil solution is available over-the-counter and is to be used for an indefinite time, and that it is not usually covered by insurance. Once stopped, any hair regrowth will be lost.

* Emphasize that minoxidil is a scalp treatment, not a hair treatment, and must be used exactly as prescribed for maximum benefit. A normal, healthy scalp is required to use this medication.

* Apply 1 mL twice a day to involved areas on a dry scalp. The solution can be applied by dropper or pump spray device to the scalp and spread lightly with a finger; massage is not needed.

* Explain that minoxidil solution must be used twice a day for at least four months before evaluating the initial response to therapy. Hair shedding usually decreases within two months of starting treatment. Hair growth may be seen within four to eight months and stabilizes at 12 to 18 months.

* Cosmetically significant hair growth occurs in only 30 to 40 percent of patients with vertex hair loss.

* The best results are obtained if the baldness pattern is present for less than five years, involves a vertex location, and is less than 10 cm in diameter.

* Treatment must be continued indefinitely; once discontinued, any hair maintained or regrown as a result of the medication will be lost.

* The most common side effects, although infrequent, are contact and irritant dermatitis. Neither 5 percent nor 2 percent solution of minoxidil alters systolic or diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, or body weight when applied daily. Nevertheless, patients with a history of cardiovascular disease should be educated to watch for tachycardia, edema, or weight gain because systemic absorption can occur if the scalp skin barrier is not intact.

* Topical minoxidil 5 percent solution is more effective than the 2 percent solution in men; there are limited data in women that also suggest greater efficacy of 5 percent minoxidil; however, a small number of women appear to develop facial hair growth with the higher concentration solution.

And here is a nice picture on how androgenetic aloepcia AKA male pattern baldness arises..
hairminiaturizationrp1.jpg

Hair "loss" in androgenetic alopecia is due to a genetically determined shortening of anagen(growing phase of hair), with subsequent production of a shorter, thinner hair shaft, a process often called follicular miniaturization. The hair growth cycle continues, but new growth becomes thinner and shorter as follicles are miniaturized.

So as you can see. Hair loss is a normal process. You me and everyone else male or female will lose hair. BUT the only difference is if you can grow it back.

In people with MPB, the hair follicles shrink with each cycle of hair growth.. and ultimately cannot grow new hair anymore.. This has been shown to be related to DHT, but the mechanism is unknown.

oily scalps causing follicular plugging do cause hair loss, but that is not MBP.. so there is a difference.. and i don't think ketoconazole is a good way to combat oily scalps.. despite how anti-androgenic its properties are..

oily scalp does have some effect in hairloss. but it is not through clogging of pore.

BJ101 <---If their methods work they would have patent and copyright and sell it "Over The Counter" liao...
They are just money suckers trying to leech off your money selling you their thousand dollar bundle products...

Like Beauty Parlour...
If it works people like our "Mark Lee" on tv would have ultra smooth skin already and people won't need to go for plastic surgery anymore...

If BJ101 works Teo Wen Long won't be balding so badly anymore and will be full of hair...

Most of these so called centre are using "placebo effect"
And tryng to con your money with their thousand dollar packages...
