Hi Isopropyl

I have been an avid follower of your posts as they are very informative and encouraging.

For someone with early stage balding, would you still strongly encourage use of propecia given that it has given you some measure of success?

Do you think propecia will lose its effectiveness over the years? Have you stopped taking propecia?

if your balding is due to MPB and you are above 18-20years old but still relatively young, i will strongly suggest using finasteride. infact, early stage is the best time to use since you might be able to save most of your hair.

but use proscar and cut it up rather then propecia. this will save you alot of money. just have a check to make sure it due to MPB. but most of the time it should be due to MPB unless your hair loss is patchy and happen very fast.

your body will not be able to build up tolerant to finasteride even if you take it for many years therefore in a way propecia will not lose it effectiveness. the problem is balding is a progressive illness and it get more agressive as you age due to multiple factors therefore it look like finasteride is no longer working for you but that not true. long term study have proven finasteride work even after many years of usage.

i switched finasteride for Avodart. but as i mention, i got 10pills of proscar from china so i using it inbetween my Avodart off day. i only taking Avodart 3times per week.

hope this help:)

Hi Isopropyl

Problem is I just ran into a bad shedding phase with Minoxi 5% and now my hair is so thin I can see my scalp. Before using this Minoxi 5%, my hair didn't look that bad but now the thinning is pretty obvious.

From what looks like early stage balding, I now look now I'm going into moderate thinning already. I'm afraid of using propecia for fear of making the shedding even worse, especially hearing stories from some that propecia made the frontal hairline look worse and that some were worse off than before they started.

My doctor is still advising me to take propecia because to them, propecia has worked for most but there are always some that don't work too well.

So do you have any words of advice? I'm getting quite depressed already.

:(

Hi Isopropyl

I actually started using growell 3-4 yrs ago but stopped sometime late last year. Then I resumed just 1 month ago with Minoxi 5% and to my horror, just after 3 weeks, my hair started falling out like crazy.

The worse part is, before I started using this Minoxi 5%, my hair wasn't really that bad, now I took a mild situation and made it into a nightmare. My scalp itches and I can feel lumps of acne.

I have stopped the minoxi 5% for abt 2 weeks now and am using a shampoo and sebum regulating spray from a skin and hair specialist. Now my hair feels thin as ever and I'm still kicking my ass for having started on the minoxi 5%.

The hair specialist says she never liked to prescribe this brand, she advises to go for either regaine or growell. Haiz......now I'm worried that I will never get back the hairs that I have shed for the past month. I still lose quite a lot of hair during shower.......when is this going to stop?

Selling 3 boxes of Proscar (5mg) by MSD. Bought too many and can't finish before the expired date. Its expiring in April 2009.

This is only for those who have taken or currently taking Proscar or Propecia. Its meant to control hairfall. This medicine is genuine so do not worry.

Those already taking Propecia(1mg) need to cut the tablet into quarters and consume each quarter everytime. This means you can save money. With each box of 30 tablets, these 3 boxes can last u for the whole year.

Proscar will have the same effect as Propecia.

I'm selling a box at $120 but if you take all 3 boxes then u need only pay me $330.

Pm me if you have any queries?

3 boxes of Proscar now left with 2....
Anymore taker? Better hurry....

it quite normal to shed after about 3weeks. it might be working.

but the itch and lumps of acne seem to be like allegry reaction which i have similar experience before. so i strongly suggest you stop using it. maybe you can get on some PPG free minoxidil like rogaine foam after you recover.

i think you should be able to recover from your shed. hair grow slowly so it might take a couple of months to get back to pre-minoxidil density. be patient.

to me, growell, rogaine or minoxi5 is the same thing. it have the same forumla so if you are allegry to one, all the 3brand should give you same effect. just get on some PPG free formula if you wanted to use minoxidil.

or you can try zix. it a home make formula that some reported result.

I'm hoping for the best now.......but if i stop using the minoxi, will my hair get worse or the regrowing get stunted?

My hair specialist also offers scalp treatment and laser therapy. She says I can try them out before signing up the package. She says that they don't charge like BJ101 or YN where you are locked in for a year for a hefty price.

I might try the laser therapy but per session costs $700. Very expensive.

Btw, what is zix? Where can i get it?

That's one of the side effect of Propecia. However, not all will experience that.
I still think having hair is more impt than sex drive... Perhaps a tablet of Viagra will solve that...

if you stop using minoxidil, your hair will be back to pre-minoxidil level. it will not get worst then before.

i suggest you skip the treatment. laser might help, but the price is too high IMO. just get some laser comb off the net if you want try if laser is for you.

check the link for more information on zix. some people report result from it. since you are not using minoxidil, as well try zix.

Hi Isopropyl

I'm already 30 this year, do you think finasteride can still work as well as on someone who is say in his twenties? How about yourself? How old were you when you started propecia and how old are you now? Is it still as effective as when you first started using it? Did you experience any shedding?

My scalp is now very oily, before minoxi 5% my hair doesn't get this limp and oily. Do you think scalp treatment can alleviate this oiliness problem and maybe help reduce some of the hair loss?

already reply your PM.

just to add on. propecia should be your first line of defense so i suggest you work on it before moving on. if really can't work, i might be give you other suggest. i not sure your history of taking propecia. but you can try things like cutting the dosage to 0.5mg, taking it every other day or try to ride out the side effect. some people who experience side effect slowly recovery after a few months of taking propecia. so you might not want to give out on propecia so fast.

alot of people started in their 30s so don't worry. if your hairloss is still @ early stage, your chance is still there. no matter what your age, using finasteride will still help. but if you are in 40s, it will be good to seek doctor advice.

i started treatment about 21-22year old. stopped somewhere for 8months and realise i losing my hair badly so i got back on it until now. i 27year old now. switched to Avodart for about 2years.

as i mention, i guess it still effective judging from my elder brother hairloss conditon now. i don't think i experience any major shed. shedding is very subjective. someday you might find yourself shedding more then others. so unless we are talking about obvious thinning or continue shedding of 1week or longer, it might be just a seasonal shed. also, i don't really suggest counting the number of hair drop especially in shower. it not a good indication of your hairloss.

i don't really believe in those clinic treatment. from years of reading in hairloss forums, i never came across an actual case that people find such treatment helpful. there is alot of things you can do yourself to keep your scalp healthy.

I started hair treatment as early as 12yo. It all started when my mum tried to get my grey n white hair darken. She tried many remedy but mainy chinese traditional medicine like He Shou Wu.
Treatment lasted till i was in my mid 20s when i started experience hairfall. I started taking all sorts of medicine for hairfall. They didn work well. Hairtonic didn work as well. I changed my shampoo to those meant for people with hairfall problem.
I only managed to get it under control till i tried taking Propecia for half a year. It cost ard 90+ a box then. I also used growell 5%. Now i'm using a Shampoo with Chinese Herbs (can be bought at NTUC).
Everything is under control now but from time to tme i also experience increasing hairfalling. I believe this has something to do with stress. I notice when i'm stressed with work, more hair falls off. If i dun have enough rest, more hair fall off. So beside tese treatment, i urge u to rest enough and relax whenever u can.
