Thinning Hair problem

After years of thinning hair, i finally went beijing 101 for consultation last sat (26th jun 10). The hair scan showed that i've got a oily scalp and the crown area was left with 1 to 2 wispy hair at each of the hair follicle. I can also see that alot of the hair follicles were clogged. She, the consultant, then showed me the hair scan of my back area which was still full of hairs and there were about 3 to 4 thick hairs in each follicle.

I'm suffering from MPB which is hereditary from my dad. I'm 31 this year and my crown is balding more obviously than my hairline which also is receding quite badly. I don't remember my dad had MPB when he was around this age.

She said that my crown area still have the chance to grow as the follicles are clogged badly but is not totally "dead". With treatments, my hair follicles will be unclogged which will allow the hair to grow and at the same time the tonic will "shield" the root of the hair from the DHT which is the main cause of hairloss. She did mentioned that the hairline might need longer treatment to have significant result.

Therefore i signed up for a S$58 trial hair treatment which include detox (remove the oil clogging the hair follicles), hair treatment ( spraying of the hair tonic and head massage) and infra-red to improve the blood circulation. Yesterday was the trial treatment. (28th jun 2010).

After the trial treatment, from the hair scan i can see that the oil clog at the hair follicles seems to be not as oily as before the treatment and the pores opening up (due to the infra-red which heats the whole head and opened the pores i suppose). The oil clogs are still not completely clear. (Its only the first treatment anyway) and my hair smells like herbal chicken soup. :/ Hope it don't smell after a shower in the morning.

Its slightly more than 4 months till my wedding date. My girlfriend and i decided to take up a 6month package which costs 3.6k paying installments over 24months. Not the best of choice i know but lets hope this treatment will show some results by then.

Sorry for the long post. I'll try to update the result with each treatment i received (next 1 is at 3rd july). I know alot of people have said that their treatment doesn't work and will say that I'll be wasting my money but whatever the case, I've already signed up with them. I'm not advertising for the company nor am i in anyway affiliated with them except for being their customer. I just hope that my upcoming posts will help people to clear the doubt of whether these hair centers and all their various forms of adverts/ articles are a scam or will they really help with restoring the glory to the crown.

Isopropyl so was ur treatment successful? I assume you are on propecia and minoxidil, and I am curious to know the long term efficacy of these medications.

so Beijing 101, YunNam and many hair dressing salons as well offer packages to deal with oily scalp and also blocked pores issues...

I wonder if those posting/viewing this thread have tried any one of it?

I know there is not much i can do for MPB but since i've the oily scalp and clogged pores problem, i hope to eliminate that problem which hopefully is the cause of the early onset of MPB. My bro, 4 yrs older than me, is also showing the same MPB synptoms but his crown is still full of hair. I had been using Bawang anti hair loss shampoo but my oily scalp and hairloss still persist. Can you still get Nizoral 1% in Singapore? Sorry i only read the first 25 pages and the last 20 pages of this thread. Thinking of using that shampoo for morning shower and leave BJ101 shampoo for the night.

I went to NSC several years before (i think just before i ord on 2002) and was prescribed minoxidil and propecia(i think). Stopped taking the medication after 2 months due to financial reason but i'm still using the minoxidil 5 quite regularly even till now. It doesn't seems to be doing much to reduce the hairloss. I must admit that i didn't follow the instruction of spraying twice a day. I only sprayed it in the morning as that is the only time my hair is totally dry, as given in the instructions, for the hair spray to be totally absorbed. I also need to wait 1 to 2 hours after spraying before i can go to sleep. I always had my shower quite late so thats why i didn't spray at night.

Anyway, back to the BJ101 treatment, I had a shower this morning and the smell still lingers abit. Hope my colleagues don't ask if anyone had herbal chicken soup spilled onto themself. :/

I'm in the media line too and i seriously hate those advertistments which are out to deceive pple of their money (maybe that's too harsh a sentence)/ can't deliver what they promised especially when they are charging so expensive.

You do know proscar is a lot cheaper than propecia right? Basically you can split proscar in 1/4 or 1/5 since it is just 5mg finasteride. Minoxidil by itself will not slow down or halt the progression of MPB.

FYI, using minox when your hair is wet will help aid the absorption. Only reason why you might not wanna do it is if you get side effects from minox.

sad to say, with all common sense and science, i got to say most likely the BJ101 as well as bawang is not going to help you. i have not seen nizoral 1% for a long time. but why don't you just get the 2% which is cheaper and diliute it to half with a gentle shampoo which will equal to 1% isn't it

as for minoxidil. you can use it on wet scalp. infact with your scalp been hydrated, minoxidil is going to penetrate better. i have been doing that for years. as for sleeping. i just try to avoid resting on the pillow for those area i apply minoxidil. I.E sleeping on the side. solve your problem.

yes sir. been using proscar for years. only different is i cut it up into 7parts instead of 4 or 5 as you mention.

Honestly, i would go for hair transplant with that money instead.

yeah. looking at the amount i can feel the pain 3.6K is alot of money. hell... it take quite a number of months to save up for the average guys.

if i know orochi07 earlier most likely i can sell him something at half-price that work as well as BJ101 treatment for MPB without those herbal smell. i promise it will be as clear and odorless like water

same for hair transplant... will suffer a lot of pain... medication etc...

but the result is not satisfactory... and after only few months/years... the condition is back to square one

Perhaps is only a little growth, and the drug may not work for you forever.

Why is this thread only focus on propecia and minoxidil?

Should talk about other findings to give some hope for those who had given up.
I mean it's only a matter of time when the real remedy be found.
For those still struggling, i think just maintain whatever you have and let emerging medical science find the solution in future.

Anyone know where about to get proscar or propecia cheap? I went to my GP today to talk about my hair thinning on the top of my head to determine if it's due to my oily hair scalp or male pattern hair loss. Btw, my family does not have the history of hair loss at all.

He deduce that mine is due to male pattern hair loss and he recommended me to take propecia (finasteride, msd 1MG) which cost $90 for 1 month and this has to go on long term for more than a year, it would be very costly. What is the difference of proscar and propecia? Different brands of drugs like panadol and some other type of pain killers which contains paracetamol?

I'm in my 30s now and it has been starting to get worse I guess. Recently I've also started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner for about 2 months now. Would the above be the best recommendation for me?

What are the medications that you guys are taking which does help?

i spent close to 8k for approx 40-50 sessions 2x week.. to be honest i see results but its too costly to maintain n go back for more trtment...

its not just go for a few times trtment hair will grow, u have to go back to maintain. wads worse is some ppl got no results.

imagine spending majority of yr salary on hair, leaving so little else for other stuff.


not worth it....looking back i should have saved up the 8k..
