Want kids or not is their business, to each their own.

but they should not be allowed to apply for BTO again, that will affect others which means it’s no longer their own personal matter.

Jobs that are able to feed and have a decent life in Singapore, you should know what's the baseline for a decent life in Singapore, having a roof over head, able to not worry about finances and being able to start a family and enjoy family bonds instead of worrying over what is next. Right now, the society norm is debt, debt, debt.

House - debt.
Car- debt.
Education - debt.

The reality I do recognize but that doesn't mean we should resign ourselves to being forever trampled on and being restricted in moving up or assuming higher positions. Look at Qatar and UAE, they have successfully allowed foreign companies in but their major shareholders and operations are still overseen by locals with the power to extradite any foreigners they deem fit due to any form of demeanor or inability to follow instructions.

Right now, we're treated like we're the 3rd world citizens in our own country, that's why kids when growing up already lost at an advantage having to be boxed in in school, taught to limit our understandings and also to follow 'law'. Not to mention the 2 years of NS which amounts to nothing but discrimination even from the superiors in the companies.

Good jobs from what I see thus far and also experienced is that unless you're a scholar, or some foreigner, getting a good job doesn't equate you can afford anything these days anymore. We need to do better. That's where DINKs come in now, and people are complaining.

Why nobody complains about LGBTQ+, they won't be able to make kids either, it's weird but let's not digress on this.

It is common globally to take on debt to buy house and car....

I dunno why some ppl feel like they shd have the privilege to not take on debt to buy house and car. It is a privilege only very few rich ppl can afford, sinkie or foreigners.

Every sinkie is given 2 bites of the cherry... Meaning you have 2 chances at BTO where you will be given priority queue.

This needs to be removed to stop the speculation that's happening now.

True. Do away with the grants too. Afterall govt kip saying public housing is "affordable". BTO only 1 bite. After MOP if dispose off property, they nid to purchase fm resale mkt. Not cheap. No more 2nd bite for BTO.That will deter them fm flipping!

I think you're mistaken, debt for house is normal, but 30 years? I don't think that's normal. I don't think the average household can afford a house fully upfront, but 30 years for a 99 year lease?

I think that warrants a re-look into.

Countries where housing is cheap, lacks security and jobs.....name me a city where u have ample of job opportunities and yet most people are able to purchase their own home....30yrs of loan means lesser stress of monthly repayment
Most BTO buyers are able to fully pay their loan if they wish to
Those who can't are minorities and such minorities go any city also same problem
Gov is not your parents, they can't care for every single citizens
Go out of your comfort zone, you will see how beautiful Singapore is when compared to other countries around the world.

I've been to more countries than you can imagine or thought I haven't.

Houses are made for citizens to live in, not to enslave them, if a government can't provide job stablity and housing for it's own citizens, then the government would have deemed failed. It's a bit flawed to say they shouldn't care for every single citizen, if so, then they shouldn't hold office. Every mother father son daughter of the country is to be included.

gzf to DINKS as long as they help to bloom the housing economy here. Things wont change.

Higher Social status is conferred to parents, not singles or dinks.

They not going to die alone right?

Nursing home should never be projected as something negative if we don’t want people to die alone.
The last one to die still die alone unless you treat nursing home staff as your grandchildren. If you got HDB flat and a lot of saving a lot of staff want to be your grandchildren. :ROFLMAO:

Why? If family need to go for bigger hdb? How?
Then the release of newer units? Resale market will not be healthy...

The only downside is that those who know they will be getting something can ensure the outcome sooner than later. :frown:

Yes govt shd care, but abt needs and not wants.

The reason why anyone will need 30 years to pay off BTO is because they are stretching themselves to buy a house.

They can always look for sth more within their budget. Hence it is their choice to take on a 30 years loan when they have the option for a shorter tenor loan.

If there is any enslavement, it is the ppl who overstretch that chose to enslave themselves...

Govt can sell bto cheap and ppl can pay up in 10 years or earlier. Can sell 4 rm flat for $50K? Then 3 years only can fully pay up everything.

Vote for PAP also the same enslavement.

High land cost element for BTO prices. more than 50% per last time I read.

Foreigners should stop blaming Sinkies.

DINK here, we just don't like kids and want more freedom. Without kids we can fly more than 4 times a year, no need to wait for school holidays. Also, I went private immediately and didn't BTO so I didn't snatch a subsidised flat from couples who want children. In fact, the taxes I've paid so far probably enough to fund the BTO grants of a few families/couples.

Actually I was referring a lot to needs. Wants (holidays, tuition, straight As, medical school, cars etc) aren't really factored in my reply.

BTO was created to meet supply and demand, however, it has become a flipping entity for people to make money these days. Once MOP up, flip and the next owner needs 30 years to pay off, which at current market, HDB hitting 1m and up, 30 years is hardly enough, and debt is rolling higher already.

I'm totally with you on the stretching portion, which I see many does, I still see many wanting to own a 300K car when spread over 120 months, they don't even take spend the equivalent on taxi/PHV.

You totally hit the spot!!!

If the PAP govt don't spend so much on useless stuff like founders memorial or almost $1M bin centre, maybe they will not need to tax people so much, to the extent need to charge so much for BTO prices via ridiculous land cost element.

Sigh... you had to remind me of that. I just feel money can be spent more responsibly.

Throwing tenders, making sure of getting 3 quotes etc... all these were to safeguard expenditures, but from what I see, it has not benefited us as you mentioned.

Right now BTOs are still in supply, one day there is no more land, no more new developments, the growing population will suffer. Foreigners can pack and go home where can citizens go?

Milk gao gao, that's why now we have DINKs.
