Any Samsung SHP-DR708 users here that encounter the same battery drain problem as me?
I would need to change all eight batteries every 3 months. I have been using energizer max and Panasonic batteries.

They (Eneloop etc) should last longer than Alkaline.

they do for most purposes but I suspect my eneloop / eneloop pro nimh batts at 1.2V are not playing well with my Samsung push pull lock ( that probably prefers 1.5V batts ) . They only last about 2 mths before the low batt alarm goes off. The duracells that I used can last me more than 6 mths easily. anyone tried Li-ion rechargeable 1.5v batts ?

I use Schlage 510f for main gate - very solid, can use PIN, fingerprint, FOB,RFID card. Recommended.
How's your battery life ah? Mine needs replacement about every 4 months with energizer alkaline batt... and this is already after changing the motherboard once, previously van only last 2-3 months before low batt warning comes on...

I see. Maybe depends on the application then.

Samsung SPH-DR708

A lot of online sellers on Lazada and shopee and Carousell and the cheapest I found is $560-600 with Warranty by shop (not by Samsung) 1 year

Authorized shops seliing cheaper $1,080 comes with warranty by Samsung 2 years

is the $560-600 one ok to get ? Is it authentic Samsung product ?

Using Legate digital locks.

A few months back, I am looking for a metal gate vendor and digital lock for my wooden door so that I no longer need to carry keys as they are heavy. With these locks, we have a choice to use a lightweight key tag or fingerprint or just a passcode. So I searched the internet to see the companies offering these in the market and the price range.

I come across different companies that offer the gate and digital gate lock as a bundle and compare them. With the pricing, branded locks are much more pricey, but I am looking for a reasonable price and good quality.

Legate was one of the companies that came up during my internet search. Upon checking, their price for the metal gate and the digital gate lock is affordable, and they also have a digital lock for the wooden door. I was skeptical at first, so I did more research about Legate. I have found out that they have a wide range of products from metal gates, invisible grille, outdoor blinds, and smart home products. With these, I thought to give them a try.

So I called Legate and inquired about the metal gate, gate lock, and wooden door lock. I was informed that they would schedule someone to do an onsite measurement and check the digital lock's main door.

To fast forward, overall, the installation was fast and professional. After using it for a few months, I find both the main door lock and gate locks very reliable as I didn't encounter any issues. It also allows remote unlock, which I usually use for my part-time cleaner.

Current hot series for Samsung is the SHP-DR708.
- It has Wifi app based unlock.
- Ability to add a temporary password that last once and even up to a few days or a few days of the weeks like Monday, wednesday and Friday.
- It also has NFC unlock using any Android phone.
- It has fingerprint unlock.
- And a physical key that will bypass the digital lock in case of emergencies such as the lock jammed due to a lousy battery being used that doesn't last like how it is supposed to like with the cat brand Eveready batteries.

However this year's latest model, the SHP-DP609 has all the features the 708 has. And at a more affordable price. And... in addition to
- RFID key unlock.

Only difference is when there's an emergency like battery flat, you must use an old rectangle shaped 9V Batteries which we rarely use nowadays for the 708 model while the latest 609 model allows you to use a portable charger with a micro USB cable to plug into the lock in order to power the lock in order to unlock it. This is in the case of the worst scenario where the battery inside that can last usually up to 10-12 months dies prematurely.

Also the difference between the 2 is the noise that it makes when you try to open the lock from the inside.
Mortise ones tend to make a louder noise. In this case, the 708 is actually quieter than the 609.
But both are way better than the older mortise models like the SHP-DP718 which doesn't automatically unlock when it feels your hand by the handle and you pulling the handle. Different than these 2 latest models.

So I leave the choice of which model to go with up to you.

As a note. My old Samsung SHP-D718 is actually a Parallel Import model from Korea. Bought it back in 2016. No issues after years of use. So no need to be scared by those forcing you to buy a local one.

PS. I got myself the SHP-DR708 and can confirm that NFC works on my phone easily. No need to launch the Samsung Smart Doorlock app at all. But you do need the app and your account and door in the app. So similarly, a family member needs an account and then you can share the doorlock with your family member. Then, for as long as they have NFC turned on on their phone, there will be no need to wake the phone up.
It's as easy as tapping your phone on the bus/MRT; Just walk up to the door and tap your phone and the door will automatically unlock. But I might as well just use fingerprint. It's just as fast. But in cases where I already have my phone in my hands, sure. It's another added convenience definitely.

both models going at SGD 660 on shopee right now...

any stark differences to choose between them?

both models, from the outside, when entering into the house, can be pushed to open the door right?
or can only pull to open?

The differences are as per my earlier post that you have quoted.

As for both models, they can be used to push or pull the door. In most cases, it will be to push. Including the International version that I am using. Not an issue.

As for the price of $500+, definitely, it will be without installation. So do take note.

If you have an earlier model, what I realized is the mortise size is still the same with my current DR708. And the installation for the inner and outer digital lock is easy for me to install myself. So learning from this, for the next upgrade, I should be able to change out my current one and install a new one in the future as long as the positions of the lock and the other holes are still aligned.
