Agree. Sticking to my usual route first and experience how is it like. At the moment it is not annoying or frustrating to me probably because i am mentally/financially prepared if things does not work out. Just going with the flow and see what magic they perform to everyone.
Just fascinated at the moment on how ppl who are in charge of securing sales are throwing sales leads to other ppl. At least i dun see it in other industry like cars, property etc

Funny how having so much money still bend backside to SA. Not my game. I’d like to retain dignity and ego haha. So many other things to buy. For every datona I can get an extra property (not Singapore) so totally ok with waiting haha.

Unless you want aquanaut or nautilus, or become vvip to get one of the unique pieces, or must have your name on the original paper. For patek no point going AD. Almost every model other than nautilus or aquanaut can get at grey for 10-40% discount.
I like having my name on the certificate of Origin. 🤣🤣 then again as a long time thg customer, it’s different. Everything comes easier.

Omega can but don't expect any discount for allocation.
And usually it's harder because ad have no issue selling omega.

Speedy prices outside are like maybe 10% cheaper.
Seamaster is about 20-25% cheaper. Sometimes 30%
Explorer. Buy grey cheaper.
Sub ND. Long queue, everyone wants one. If someone buys a house brand to get allocation vs you getting an omega, he will get first for sure.
Thg is all about hublot and UN. No other way around it.
I see. Is there like a ballpark purchase figure to hit before even being considered for Explorer or Sub ND, assuming I’m getting the likes of Speedmaster/Seamaster plus Junghans and Glashutte? I’m also guessing it’s not to be too upfront about my intention of getting Rolex from the get go?

Check with the SA. But nowadays they don't promise you. Later you buy speedy at full value then the rolex never come.
I think if you're not getting alot of stuff. Just buy grey. Overall might be cheaper.

Go ask around and do your math and homework

This kind of info is quite hidden cos got quite alot of factors at play eg. What u buy, SA seniority, who intro you etc... its best to be upfront with your SA that your intention is to purchase the explorer or sub ND and see if what you are intending to purchase may qualify you for it or not.

The SA I work with is not senior - in fact he was a trainee when I met him - but he was able to get me what I wanted. The important thing is to show them that you are a genuine watch collector and you are willing to buy a few pieces to get to what you want. For better or worse, that's the reality nowadays and if you're not willing to play the AD game, then it's better to get from resellers.

BTW, I was at VC and the SA there who was fairly junior said there is no PWP model there, just register interest and you will be placed in a queue system to get your piece. Seems too good to be true, so wondering if anyone could comment on this?

What mukamuka said above is quite spot on, although in this industry, nothing is absolute. Most SA that are senior can help to better expedite for their clients while it is not 100% that a junior SA definitely is unable to help their clients get anything. If the junior SA has the drive, enthusiasm, resourcefulness and have prove himself with a track record of sales and a good pool of clients buying from him/her, I believe he would be able to impress the exco enough to be able to expedite what his/her clients wanted (like in your case). So I totally get what you are saying as well about how a junior SA was able to help you.

I'm not familiar with VC and so will let the experts here comment.

VC - definitely it helps if you buy other stuff. like any AD, as long you're an existing customer, you have a better chance of getting something you want, i assume overseas?

VC are no longer under any dealer? So the orchard and MBS outlets are directly under the brand?

How would an SA be considered senior may I ask? What length of service or job title?

More of the rank or job title. Not so much of length of service. My first SA who I didn’t continue with eventually is more than 10 years in the company and still holds the title of Associate Specialist after so many years and he never was proactive in wanting my biz as he knew I’m hot on the sports models and he cannot help. Another SA which a friend of mine supports, worked as an Associate Specialist for just 2 years and promote to Senior Sales Exec very quickly. When he was Senior Sales Exec, he was able to do more for my friend when it comes to his Rolex sports request. So I do believe that if you are junior but able to perform, you would be able to have more influence in getting allocation for your clients or get promoted faster in a shorter period.

i have been shopping and dining at MBS as the rewards program is very good. Branded watch brand can get 3% rebates (some exceptions are Rolex, Patek). Branded bags, clothes also have, except LV and Hermes. And yeah, Apple Store also excluded from the 3%.

Ah mine is still Associate Specialist. See what he can do for me.

Chanel don’t have rebate also, but spending at these stores without rebate can still count towards spending to retain/level up your membership tier. Wah now that you mention it, I realise Apple also remove liao. Previously they had. I bought my iPad and iPhone 1 year ago still have. But the membership getting quite bad la if they can’t enrol most of the f&b especially. Da Paolo and even Ippudo and HDL are not part of the programme. Just counted, only 70% of the 50 F&B outlets are part of the programme.

Oh yeah Chanel also don’t have. I didn’t know that those without rebate still count towards the membership tier. I was surprised that they have rebates for the likes of VC, Hublot actually.
I think majority of the popular F&B still have, like Spago, Bread Street Kitchen and Mott 32. Yep, last year Apple store still have. I decide not to buy iPhone 13 pro though. Then this year iPhone 14 pro out, I thought I would buy at MBS outlet to get the 3% rebates, then check and realised it’s excluded. haiz. But since you mention it does still count in the membership tier, I will probably still get iphone 14 there. Haha

After some contemplation I think I would like to play the AD game rather than going grey. Because I do have interests in getting other watches as well. Thinking of THG. What are the brands I should start off with to build a profile that eventually leads me to a 124270 or a 124060?

Honestly, I would rather get watches I like such as Speedmaster/Seamaster Diver series. I know that Tudor sports are not counted into the profile building exercise but is it possible to buy Omega in order to be considered for Explorer or ND Sub? I have little to no interests in Hublot. But following the posts here, seems like it is a prerequisite? Any way to circumvent around Hublot? And roughly what is the total amount to be spent to be considered for ND Sub or Explorer 1?
What's your real objective here? Everyone here is telling you that playing the AD game is a losing game. Those who go the AD route are ppl who have the capacity to spend (a lot of money, EVERY YEAR) for fun and seek thrill when they get the call. And if they don't, they are fine with it and content with the watches they bought.

There's no financially sound method to get your Explorer or ND Sub from ADs, you can't game them. Everyone's experience is different, depending on the salesperson, depending on your face, depending on god knows the magic formula of spending history required. Why subject yourself to so much uncertainty when you can just pay a bit above retail for the 2 watches that you really like? They are not trading at mindless prices so why can't you just get it and be happy?

Maybe you can try locating the address of the CEO and kneel down outside his/her house every day until you get an allocation.

Just want to lay the truth to you. Not many ways around this. Asking all these questions is not going to give you the answers you are really looking for. THERE IS NO FORMULA.

Personally the AD route is worth it provided you genuinely like watches, want to collect other luxury brands, and don't mind waiting months before you get your first SS Rolex allocation. Of course you must be willing to spend - not just money but time to cultivate relationships. My first few watches from an AD were not Rolex, and my first grey watch was a Rolex.
