hello shifus, laojiaos and big fish
been lurking here... wanted to seek for some advice

am looking to build up a modest watch collection that i can wear for years... just an average wage earner here

this is my wish list:
- JLC reverso duoface
- Cartier Santos (ss or tt)
- DJ steel
- Sub (date or nd)

as you can tell, these are "normal" models for the brands, nothing exotic or super rare
given the above, should i try to build up a profile with an AD or just go grey... also not sure if JLC and Cartier count towards the profile-building for Rolex allocation
given that JLC is moving towards a boutique-only sales model, should i quickly go to an AD now hoping for a discount

thank u
If your target for a Rolex is only the Sub and that is the end game for you, yeah, I think the forumers here will tell you it is better to go grey.

Waiting for price of Batman to drop further. But then I see the Pepsi/Root Beer also like nice.

Anyway not in a hurry... Won't get allocated at AD, so will likely go grey.. unless AD have DJ stock for my wifey... Maybe can try luck.

I just found out from another friend in a chat group that he managed to get the Explorer 2 Polar during a walk in at a Rolex boutique in Oslo. Seems like it is now possible to get certain sports model in overseas without purchasing history

Oslo, Norway. Lucky guy.
2019 I can get gold Rootbeer, blue dial White goldDaytona, at retail + tax refund. No need bundle.
That was before gold watches got all the hype.
Only problem is wallet not enough

I bought OP39 white and Wimbledon 126334 and use that to bundle a sub date at bucherer in 2019.
It's not that surprising. Just that 2020-2022 it's harder.

You can explore ADs 1st as they are more willing to allocate the DJ nowadays and see if they have stock on the JLC since Richemont has discontinued their contract. With a softer market, ADs may bundle Sub ND with JLC/Cartier. No harm trying I guess..The grey market is always there and who knows after exploring ADs, the prices may even drop further..Panda has hit $40.5k..

No need to bundle. Really walk in and got it. Is it because Oslo is more ulu, unlike major European cities like Paris, London and Madrid? So less demand for Sports Rolex?

You answered your own question
Oh haha, even though I suspected so, it still comes as a major surprise to me as last time no matter which overseas boutique also cannot get a sports model without bundle during a walk in. situation is changing indeed

Quite surprised that a month ago, my friend was complaining no rolex sport in Europe at all..no chance to bundle even if want and now walk in can just secure so easily..a drastic change..

I noticed that a month ago in Sep, the prices was a little more stable (didn’t drop from August) but this month, starting around 2 weeks ago, the price drop was a lot more significant. Eg in first week Oct, I still see a 2022 Panda selling about 49k or so but now it has drop to about 45k. In Mid Sep or so, I saw some new Panda selling about 49.5k closer to 50k.
That Bloomberg article 2 weeks ago which mentioned that Rolex and Patek prices will drop further was somewhat spot on.

EU If you walk in, they won't bundle for you unless you're existing customer.
But Nordic countries, it's usually easier. People there aren't really interested in luxury goods. Similar to Australia. But Australia have a huge Asian community. So....
