Went to china recently and at the outskirt of the main city where the number of AD(lookup rolex site for AD location) are less than 3. There is a good chance you can a daydate or explorer range. Was offered a 124270 at $11.1k, their official pricing albeit more expensive than Singapore $10.5k.
still worth leh. did u buy the explorer?

Some ppl also like the house brand watches, thus no issue to build the journey.
Some ppl prefer direct from AD - Last time warranty card state Name of owner.. But nowadays no name of owner so..?
Some ppl prefer direct AD, in case if they sell or flip they tell ownself they no lose money.

No right or wrong. Happy can liao.

For the big ADs, any rough gauage spend to be eligible to get on the list for a steel daytona?
Hearsay la.. dont quote me.. just for hearsay reference.
1st rolex to get a Steel daytona from AD is quite hard or 0%..

most likely you need get 1 or 2 rolex 1st, than got chance get daytona allocation.
inbetween also some other house brand watches to build your profile / journey (whatever they call)

another hearsay.
after you get a sport model, you need at least 6 month time than will / can / allocation / get another sport model provided you have "built" enough for the 2nd sport in that 6 month.

Depends if you just one or two models …. Or you want a watch collection….. if just one or two better to get from grey if you want a collection I think it’s worth investing in a long term relationship with the AD

To be honest, both path is almost the same.
Grey Market can also build rapport, coz you are a carrot head to them.
example, If you happen to see a Moon watch , they can give better price then ADs.

As for AD wise also same you are buying watches at retails prices then give you allocation.
Anyway, currently bad times, this grey market's prices not bad.

if you buy from AD, at least you can see your money goes into a physical item i.e. watch. it may not be the watch you want, but after you get your desired piece u can still sell all the sh1tter watches you bought to recover some costs.

If you go grey, all the money above retail you pay goes purely into the ‘grey market premium’.

i guess the actual amount is more or less
End of day, either way you go, want to buy sports rolex, forget it if you don’t want to spend big.

Much appreciated! Now slowly building, with a ladies TT DJ, SS sub in the future (will this reset spend?) Will this change the amount required? (I do understand it'll still come down to relationship and SA).
Just an estimation (don’t quote me):
From your current purchases, you get 2 more house brands (in between and ask for a sports Rolex), and should have a reasonable chance to ask for a Daytona Black SS by the second house brand purchase.

edit:
I saw wrongly and thought you have two TT DJ purchase. So maybe you need to get another TT DJ plus two house brand to get the Black Daytona SS

Right from the start, I have always bought from AD even when the grey prices was lower than retail 9 years ago. So when I reignited my interest in watches in 2019, my first thought was to buy from the AD whom I started in 2015.
I don’t have a particular reason, just prefer to buy from AD. A bit like the preference to buy a brand new condo from developer than from the resale market. But honestly speaking, if I didn’t manage to start successfully in 2019 with AD and only trying to start in 2022-2023 onwards, I might not start at all as it is honestly a lot more difficult to start with AD from 2022 onwards but would I buy from grey then? Perhaps only the Pepsi which has always been the one watch I wanted most if I ever gave up on the watch journey with AD. Fast forward to current, I’m extremely happy with the current journey with AD and didn’t regret starting at all in 2019

will you still start your journey with AD or will you go with grey market purchase to get your desired watch? I heard that grey market do still sell watch with AD warranty but they already sell it at a premium price

If you just want to have a few pieces in your collection, just go grey. It is definitely more cost efficient than going down the AD route, not to mention you get what you want on the spot. If you want to collect other brands along the way, the AD route makes sense as the "premium" you give to the grey dealer goes into the other watches you want to collect. Above all, AD route is all about collecting and spending smartly

Grey sell watches at market price. There’s plenty of watches out there being sold for a discount too. But I guess you want your Rolex Pepsis and Daytonas just like every other guy thus demand > supply. ADs also understand that thus the requirement to buy shitters before they allocate you something that is in demand. Ownself do the math and works out what’s efficient or more appropriate for you lah.

depends on how much you like it
i have a 78 blue vignette daydate, it's still my most loved watch right now
meet up at a 3rd party authenticator or vintage watch seller or service shop to authenticate and tell you the condition of the watch, and negotiate depending on the condition lo

Hi there,

I am presented with an opportunity and would like some of your expert advise on it.

I have always been eying on the GMT - Master 2, 126710BLNR (Batman). I was introduced to a Rolex AD by a friend who has quite a solid r/s with the AD with prior watch purchases.

I am being given an offer to spend 10k worth of Tudor watches and be on an accelerated wait list for the GMT Batman. All in all, the watch will come within 3 months after the purchase. (plus minus 3 months)

Judging by the price and arrangement, any thoughts?
Thanks.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to thank everyone for being so friendly and answering my questions. And also just a small update if anyone was curious.

So I managed to get the 126710BLNR (Batman) from the AD after waiting for 3 months and 27 days. Bought it for $15.7k and really really enjoying the watch.

Regarding the 'buying journey' -I purchased a Tudor watch RTP (7.3) + 2.8 worth of gold)

I managed to sell off the Tudor for $4350, the gold is still sitting in somewhere at home LOL

So net spending was $15.7k + $2.95k + $0.8k (assuming that I sell the gold for 2k and make a $800 lost)
which brings about $19.5 for the watch.

Any thoughts? Or i kena carrot LOL
