Take note this will not work for Singtel ONT users as it does not support Singtel VLAN. ISPs like M1/Starhub/MyRepublic should be fine, also good for Whizcomm ONT or Viewquest ONT users.

For Singtel ONR users then this will need to be configured in AP mode to prevent Double NAT, kind of wasted. Same for Whizcomm ONR or Viewquest ONR users.
Not sure, not ST TV user.
But where to see the difference and what should I be looking for in relation to the ST VLAN part?

It's got bridge mode for vlan group i think i saw.

SingTel ONT users need VLAN settings for both Internet (VLAN ID 10) and SingTel TV (VLAN ID 20, VLAN priority 4).

The Chinese routers only support Chinese IPTVs. On the Internet side they either do not require VLAN or use PPPoE. They will not work for SingTel VLAN.

Ah. I get it now.
Oh well fortunately that's ST only...

I don't see much concern to get China TP-Link equips working in Singapore, since both not approving 6GHz for WiFi 6e/7 WLAN in near future.

The only downside will be warranty, and maybe lack of rich features like those in ASUS routers or openwrt.

I am using TP-Link from Chinese domestic with Singtel fiber net
- TL-XTR6690 (Main router, SFP+ port to NLT optical)
- TL-XTR5466 a mesh AP (both tri-band wireless backhaul or 2.5G wired backhaul works like a charm)
- TL-SH1005 a 2.5G 5-port switch (unmanaged, WAN from XTR6690's 2.5G port)

And the set-up supports Singtel IPTV VLAN tagging to specific port, either on main router or mesh router, no issue at all (suppose your ONR set to bridge mode and bind internet/IPTV to same port on ONR).

You are totally bypassing the SIngtel ONR with the TL-XTR6690 as Main router and its SFP+ port connected to NLT optical fibre terminal. That is interesting.

Shouldn't be la

I am not so sure what you mean here. Do you mean bypassing the ONR is not necessary or not difficult?

Bypassing Singtel ONR is not a simple task as Singtel has stopped entertaining ONR bridging request for 1Gbps plan users.

Even though it may not be necessary for average users but then you will be living with the very limited feature of Singtel ONR which will be the main router of the network. You can not even set up your own DNS server with the Singtel ONR. Its performance as a router is also so-so if you have many devices on the network. You may also hit some problems with port forwarding if you need to do that. You may have to use Double NAT in order to use some features of your own router.

Basically Singtel ONR is so limited that I recommend against Singtel for new users.

What geylynd has done (using own router to replace Singtel ONR) is a more advance topic to me and that is why I say it is interesting. This is especially true since Singapore ISPs (Singtel included) do not disclose information about the ONT/ONR and backend OLT information.

OLT(NLT Fiber port)-----ONU-----Router

Seems like you always overestimate the complexity of Singtel VLAN. All ONU device can pass through or set VLAN, no matter it is ONR or mini PON device. Setting up Internet and IPTV on MA5671A is simply copying numbers from issued ONR, Voice would be a bit harder though.

Haha, yes I consider using the GPON stick or 3rd party ONT/ONR to replace Singtel ONT/ONR to be an advance topic.

As for Singtel VLAN implementation inside Singtel ONR, yes I consider it an advance topic as well. Take note I am not an expert or even power user in the networking area -- just an average user who wants to know more.

I tend to think what you do is beyond 99% of the Singapore consumer Fibre broadband users. So to me for sure you belong to the more advanced users.

And it may really not be easy to fully emulate the Singtel ONR or Singtel Issued router using 3rd party stuff, even for advanced users, if you are not an insider.
1) Digital Voice
2) Netflix on Singtel TV Box
3) Wireless connection of the Singtel TV box (Linksys E9450 and Netgear Orbi are okay when used together with Singtel ONR, but not Asus).
4) Singtel TV Go app remote control of the Singtel TV Box

I do not know of any one who has done #2 and #4.

Yes I use Huawei OptiXstar MA5671A to be my customized ONT device. There are also similar Nokia and Hisense ONU which does similar job
https://e.huawei.com/sg/products/enterprise-transmission-access/terminal/onu/optixstar-ma5671a
The GPON ONU serves as a mini ONT/ONR device to do authentication and bridgeing. Singtel only authenticates user by LOID (Fiber broadband ID) and hardware SN (on the issued ONR). MAC is not required but I changed MA5671A's MAC to be same too.

Why such set-up:
1. to bypass Singtel ONR which defaults router mode, get rid of TR-069 and limited Gigabyte LAN connection
2. to free some weak current box space, no additional power supply required to ONU
3. supports GPON max bandwidth single port, Singtel 1Gbps plan gives 1.2Gbps/1.0Gbps DL/UL speeds. 2Gbps Plan also benefits with 2.1/1.25Gbps speeds.
4. SFP+ supports up to 10Gbps speed. (There is XGS-PON ONU from Huawei but it has quite higher temp and not necessary as the ISP issued onr is good enough)

There will be many new ONRs coming out this year with 2.5G LAN port like cheap VSOL V2802RH, and old but more expensive ZTE F7607p.

Also, the reason why Singpoare ISPs market their 2Gbps plan with 1+1Gbps connection is simply onr hardware limitation, they just lazy and mean to provide newer ONRs with 2.5G port since most people dont actually care.

Also why is XDR6060 twice the price of XTR7880? XTR is triple band while XDR is dual band lol.
