Hi, I want to ask if anyone knows what's the price range for replacing the whole engine assembly for Toyota Wish 1.8?? my engine is vibrating with loud noises when it is stationary. I was quoted a fee of around 3.5k for replacing the entire engine assembly, being a know-nothing about car, I am hoping for some clarification or guidance.

Send to another workshop for second opinion and just let another workshop make another independent assessment.

What exactly did the first workshop say is wrong in the first place ?

More likely is engine mount which will not cost $3.5k.Go to other workshops to ask around.

Whats the diag of your engine sound that reckon needed to change whole engine?

Contact scrapyard in Singapore. This model should be not that difficult to find.
Yes, also check out another workshop to seek another opinion. Maybe don't need change whole engine, engine mountings worn out?

Initially he thought was the front absorber linkage wear and tear, need to change the whole absorber. but a few days later, the car engine is louder than excavator engine. then I show him the video of the engine sound and he told me something is wrong with the engine. He open up and tell me the whole engine assembly(together with the absorber) are gone and need to be replaced.

I did seek second opinion from another workshop and they're telling me it is best to replace the whole engine assembly than to overhaul it. Reason for replacement than overhaul was because my car is 14 years old and has 6 years left before end of COE.

In this case, either go with $3.5k or try your luck at scrap yard.
$3.5k won't get you a brand new engine for sure.

Scarp the car, get back 6 years worth of unused COE. Get another car.

You mean 3.5k is considered cheap for a new engine? sorry I really no idea what's the value of it.

If you can live with it.drag it out first.$3.5 to depreciate over 6years is about addition $600 every year.Quite a big difference considering the additional road tax you pay and the higher wear and tear down the road with other parts. If you scrap the car now,you can get back cash that would allow you to get a 2nd hand car with let's say 4-5years left with a some top up.

Good market to buy car now

yea I understand what you meant.Furthermore my road tax is up next month so if I were to scrap and get another used car, it has to be before the road tax right.

Depends if it is beginning of the month or ending. If it is the ending of next month, you will have enough time to find a car but if it is the beginning, you might need to pay the road tax and drag it out a few months. You can start shopping on sgcarmart now and work your finances.

Where are you at financially?i would scrap if i was in your position.I had a Latio with 2 years left but the gearbox started to breakdown and i scrap it.Repair cost was about $2k plus but i decided it was not worth the repair and i never looked back since

ok man, seems like majority prefers getting another car instead of repairing and use it for the remaining 6 years.

my only concern here is, with another second hand car maybe left 6 years, i need to finance the instalment for another 72 months.

My COE car, left 12 months of instalment only hahah i took 60 months loan to pay for 10 years COE.

Dont know if it makes sense but financially i feels more tiring but i understand how some bro highlighted that the COE car might face other repair issues to come.

Actually can. I’d say if TS can get six month warranty for a replacement engine go for it.

I mean $3.5 k cannot buy you a new engine. With this price, could be a used engine from somewhere else.
