Actually can. I’d say if TS can get six month warranty for a replacement engine go for it.

Yes, it comes with 6 months warranty on the engine assembly.

so to break it down, the 3.5k includes spark plugs, rocker cover gasket set, water pump, fan belt & tensioner, vacuum hoses, coolant hoses, Flywheel oil seal, Torque converter seal, Engine mounting set (4 pcs).

Hi bro, when you said they believe, you mean they are under the delusion that spare parts are cheap and easily available?

I thought if wish is popular model, the parts should be readily available?

Labour included? The above listed parts brand new?

Sian, super difficult situation.

1: outstanding loan
2: cannot guarantee it will be fix after repair
3: **, cannot just buy/change car.

Usually, if you are not too lucky with used cars, wait a while and go for brand new.

Now the issue is the cost.

Typical TL believe Toyota cars very reliable and NV spoil. And even spoilt , the repair cost is dirt cheap. The used car sales man just know how to use those magical words, I'm sure it can be sold easily

I think you might be able to get $2k elsewhere. Try asking around call workshops for quotes. Call at least 6-7 shops. I’d call 10 since so free now.

$3k can get replacement engine already... with labour.

Can drive until a Japanese engine up lorry. I think the condition of the car is pretty bad. Doubt you are the only owner.

Scrap it and take back the remaining cash. It will save u more headache.

14 Yrs Old Wish with 1ZZ-FE 1.8L engine? Did your engine "eat" engine oil very fast, common problem for this engine to have vibration. 3.5K probably get you a recon engine but good enough. You can try to ask them to get the MRS 1ZZ-FE which is better than from Wish.

Yes you are right, after clarifying with them again, they told it is recon one.

Anyways, i went to seek other workshop opinion and they told me that it is not engine problem. I am caught in between now lol

For Toyota engine is not uncommon to do a top overhual. Any loss of power? Engine oil? If not should be engine mounting which is common...

I suppose u do normal maintenance right like changing engine oil every 10km?
If that is the case, unlikely to be so bad till u need to change the whole engine unless u skip those regular maintenance.

If u service regularly, u should seek more opinion as i doubt change of engine is needed.
Dun tell the workshop what is the diagnostic was given by other workshops. Let them diagnose the issue on their own.

Most workshop in SG will overcharge if they know u have zero knowledge on car. This is my personal experience.

Yes. You must tell the workshop exactly what needs to be changed to not get ripped off. Only when you know what needs changing then you can ask around. Example, head gasket, valve cover gasket, timing belt, starter motor, ignition coils, MAF sensor. Good to have an idea about cars.

Yes i do regular servicing every 10km.

Actually the foolish me showed the 2nd workshop everything the first workshop diagnosed and quoted. Surprisingly, the 2nd workshop (traditional uncle) did a check and told me nothing major has happened to the engine itself, the sound i heard is just wear and tear of the fan. He did went on and inform me that engine mounting, water pipe and the 4 absorber has to be changed.

Sound OK. Actually engine very seldom will need a replacement unless you mod or race it. And it is not uncommon for them to run 500k km without much issue.

Have you ever change engine mounting, water pipe and the 4 absorber all these before in your 300k km mileage?

Those items he mentioned are wear and tear which will breakdown even u service your car regularly.

Talk and talk and toyota basher came in, all use keyboard type...yada yada but no video :s22:

Why you all bother input so much and keep looping answers when you don't even see the real thing in person or video

i would follow that uncle advise but u should go to 2 more workshops and let them access before deciding. He assessment sound more reasonable to me.

It is not cheap to replace all those items all at one go ($1k+ range) so better ask more workshops either by google (those with good reviews) or ask friends. The labour is the expensive to replace all these unless you cross the bridge.

Also, the workshop which u did servicing is not that good as they have noticed all these wear and tear.
