TP-Link EB810v - Quick overview

One big problem about this router is IP address never update or change.

It's technically tied to the MAC address, because my IP changed when I slipped in the UDM. But practically, yes, unless you can change the MAC via a tool, it wouldn't get a different one (AFAIK).

2. Your connection scheme --> I do not think it will work. But I could be wrong. You can try it.
FTP --> ONT --> ThinkStation P330 Tiny as main router --> TP-Link EB810v in Special AP mode (10G LAN).

I tend to think you connection will not work. You are using a Special AP mode by connecting the 10G LAN port to the main router. In that case, I believe the combo WAN port will be non-functional.

Interface
1× 10GE/SFP+ Combo WAN port

3× 2.5GE LAN ports

3. Normal AP connection scheme should work. Just that the SFP+ port is now useless.

FTP --> ONT --> ThinkStation P330 Tiny as main router --> TP-Link EB810v in normal AP mode (10G Combo WAN RJ45 port).

TP-Link EB810v 10G LAN port --> NAS

4. Should be no issues. Your PC will connect to the ONT and EB810v at 10Gbps connection rate. 5Gbps speed limit comes from the Starhub side (either the OLT or some other server in the access network, not an expert here).

FYI, It's work well. the 10G SFP+ can use as Lan under AP model. but only 1G speed? will try and update to you

I guess I just lucky. After updating firmware , I saved my settings brought over from old firmware

when playing around with the new firmware, I noted the bug, thank goodness restoring older settings file overrides the bug. I was using dfs channel

in sg, use DFS got any issue? rmb its abt probe request turning to passive if using DFS

last time got ppl say 100-144 is open for use in sg

Currently, I can only select channels 36-48 and 149-165 on my Asus router.

I believed Singapore only allowed these channels and that the use of channels 52-64 and 100-144 were not allowed.

However, I happened to be around the Sports hub today, and noticed some of the networks operating on channel 136.

Quick check of the IDA spectrum handbook (Page 31), it appears the full 5GHz band is now available for WiFi (I don't remember this being the case before). Channels 36-64, 100-144 and 149-165.

Couple of questions ...

#Is this correct?

#Assuming it is, has any router received a firmware update to unlock those channels for Singapore?

DFS no issue, i think becos i not stay near changi or tengah or caldecott

If you do not use the non-wireless FW features of RT-AX86U, then go ahead with AP mode.

if you need those FW features, then you have to use router mode but live with Double NAT.

Yes that is the better way. You need to change the Asus router setting to use the 2.5G port as WAN port.

I'm having same issue where WIFI connection (especially 5Ghz) always disconnected. This issue has impacted my work when I need to use company VPN and when having conference call. So far StarHub has replaced my EB810v but issue still persists. The Starhub follow-up team calls me every 2-3 days by asking some standard useless questions without giving me solution. Really feeling frustrated with them.
Does anyone having same issue? or am I the only one?

Don't have disconnect issues with mine, it's just that sometimes it's hard to search for the network when first connecting. My laptop for example, can't even find the 6ghz band. But connected via MLO it shows 6ghz connection and can go full speed WiFi 6E which is 1.9/1.9.

My other issue is...when setting it up as AP mode, the download is speed much slower than in router mode. No idea why.

Did SH replace the ONT? My Wi-Fi disconnection issue was resolved after the ONT was replaced

They did not. As the disconnection issue only happen to WIFI connection. LAN connection is stable.

1. Yes I think that is the right option. You can of course experiment with the location to see where is the best location for the third node.

2. But I will suggest to get two units first to see how it goes first. It could be that two nodes is already good enough for your use case. You can carry out experiments to put node 2 in different location to see if it is already good enough.
1) Node 2 placed in LAN 1 location (Ethernet backhaul)
2) Node 2 placed in LAN 2 location (Ethernet backhaul) -- by right this may be worse than Option 1).
3) Node 2 placed in current location (Wireless backhaul)
4) Node 2 placed further up in the kitchen (Wireless backhaul)

3. If all the options are not good, then go ahead with 3-nodes solution.

Ok after trying the new set up for almost 2 weeks, in particular ethernet backhaul at new Node 2 position, still not so stable connection at kitchen toilet.....but the bedroom connectivity did see notable improvement....

Instead of a 3rd node, do you think i should just get a normal router and maybe place it someone in the kitchen to act as the 3rd node?

On a separate but related note.....as i was doing the reconfig of the positioning of the nodes, i realised the ethernet cables used in the "Node 1 LAN port 1 --> existing Ethernet cable --> LAN 1/2" is Cat 5E. So if i signed up for this SH 10gbps with EB810v WiFi 7, there won't be an upside to me right? Coz Cat5E can only do 1gbps?

If do Easymesh Ethernet backhual with two EB810V the mesh will be limited to 2.4ghz 5ghz and 6ghz. As MLO cannot be used as there is two different MLO SSID. TP-Link yet do anything for mesh MLO.

I am now considering between myrepublic BE805 or Starhub's EB810v, TP-link confirmed that BE805 cannot use 6ghz to do backhaul. Neither can the mesh synchronize the 6ghz band; only 5GHz and 2.4GHz can synchronize between nodes.

They did not. As the disconnection issue only happen to WIFI connection. LAN connection is stable.

For work VPN better report it to your IT department. I never have WiFi issue at all. My laptop auto connect to my wifi and i just connect my office VPN and it is ok.

seems like there's still improvements to be done on the Easy Mesh. I know that the IOT and Guest SSID does not replicate on the Satellite Nodes when using either wired or wireless backhaul. And hidden SSID on Main Mesh will somehow appear on Satellite Nodes.

Does Asus AIMESH face the same issue?

The wifi coverage is quite good for me. Must put the router in the right location high high up there..

I believe TP-Link Deco should have this feature working. Deco Mesh is more mature than TP-Link EasyMesh.

For Asus, I think MLO feature is also not so mature, but this feature should work fine.

There is one limitation mentioned in the Asus FAQ which kind of makes sense.

3. Will the AiMesh node (a WiFi 6E router that does not support MLO) have a 6GHz WiFi network after being added to the main AiMesh router that supports WiFi 7 MLO?

If MLO is enabled on AiMesh Primary router, the node without MLO will not broadcast 6GHz WiFi. If you want to disable MLO, log in to the ASUS router settings page, go to[Wireless] > [MLO], and click [Enable MLO] to disable this feature (enabled by default).
