Not much lah, my phone has B40 no B8, most of the time out of coverage for TPG.

They paid for this radio frequency spectrum, and it is allocated to their use, so it is up to them if they want to generate revenue using this band :D

I wonder if this is similar to VOIP calling app like skype? Since you will need to go to the app to make calls and you can make video calls to, so it sounds like VOIP. But then my next question is how is VOIP different from VOLTE?

Is not up to them. Is regulated by MIDA. If the coverage does not meet requirement. They can get fine by MIDA.

I seem to have the same problem. Trying to get it work with an old Xiaomi Note

Anyone success with using phones with only B40? tried 4 phones only with B40 without B8 band, always no signal.

This link is interesting:

https://www.frequencycheck.com/bands/lte-band-8-900

B8 is not used in China and India.
B40 is not used in Singapore but used in China and India.

Allocated bands for LTE access:
- SingTel: B3/7/8/38
- M1: B3/7
- StarHub: B3/7/38
- TPG: B8/38/40

Incumbents also have the option to refarm their 3G WCDMA spectrum to provide LTE on Band 1.

Additional spectrum to be allocated by IMDA soon:
- SingTel/M1/StarHub: B28

For this, it is VoIP instead of VoLTE.

VoLTE is carrier grade voice calling, while VoIP is not.

Advantages of VoLTE:
- No need third party dialer
- Quality of Service requirements applies
- Doesn't need data services to be on all the time (WiFi/Mobile data); all services are route through the IMS Core instead of the usual APN traffic, therefore data charges are waived.
- Allows for voice calling in weak service area due to much lower overhead. SVRCC also ensures smooth handover from LTE to 3G/GSM services in such service area if there's stronger service on those bands.
- Ability to call through IoT devices (LTE Cat-M1 minimum).

IMDA puts up auction for radio spectrum. All wireless carriers will bid for them. Whoever wins, will pay IMDA spectrum license to use for X years.

Try changing the region on the RN3 SD to Malaysia to get VoLTE

Has anyone gotten or know how to enable VOLTE for the Samsung J6. Keep trying but only gotten LTE to work so far. However I do know that it is VOLTE capable as people in India uses it for their VOLTE calls right out of the box for their Jio telco.

For some reason, the VOLTE on/off is missing from my phone menu. :s11:

Try this:

Step 1: Open dialer app

Step 2: Dial *#*#4636#*#*

Step 3: Choose phone Information

Step 4: Select VoLTE provisioned flag

That’s it, now restart your phone
