Thanks, yes will try diy as parts seems quite cheap. Will open tv tomorrow to see if can identify any burnt bits on the boards, suspect not as tv working again today fine.

Yap, backlight issue. Can go Aliexpress or TaoBao to find the backlight to replace.
Don't scrape the TV. Is worth to diy since you already decided to scrape. Use it as self learning diy.

I have spare LG 42" LED backlight from a bad LG panel. Not sure it fits Philips as I know most Philips TV use the same LG hard panel.

Where is the jumper that has problem?

Guess for electronic stuff that got problem, if can open up to do some visual checks and troubleshooting, may get lucky.
WOW! Thanks i1Magic .

The burnout is on the top right of the board next to the two capacitors. Rusted causing sparking then burnout.

From my limited experience, this could be power supply issue.

I changed the power adapter and it is ok liao.

This type of problem usually is just the capacitor on the power supply board.
Don't need to change the whole power supply.

See the rusty open circuit jumper wire at top right, next to 2 capacitors and near the heatsink.

have a Philips 42pfl6008 tv that seems to have a backlight issue. Sometimes (not every time) the tv turns on, there is sound and the ambilght turns on but there is no picture. Then often after 15-20 minutes of being on picture comes on, other times it starts up no problem. Seems like it’s a backlight issue and seems quite common on Philips TVs. Could I check if anyone have recommendation for repair and any views on how much it might be as trying to figure out if I get fixed or just scrap.
Any help much appreciated,
It may even be a loose joint somewhere inside the boards. So such intermittent issues, you can try opening up the TV and removing/cleaning the ribbon cable connections with contact cleaners first. And brush off the dust accumulations. Then check again.

Like the rest here, i would like to vouch for Mr Ho.

Called Mr Ho at 12pm today and he came down at 1:30pm. He revived my 1.5 years old Sony 8500G by replacing the burnt diode. All done within an hour for $90.

If you need a guy to fix your TV, give Mr Ho a try at 62524555. He has a mobile phone but i think he switches it on only when he needs to use it lol. He accepts only cash - no paynow paylah and he doesn't know his bank account number.

Find a chance to open up the TV and do visual inspection. Check all the capacitors.

Like this?

What if the capacitor is failing but not yet totally spoilt? Will it also be bloated?

I suspect this is T-con issue.

Yup... capacitors can continue to work, but best is to change them out quickly, even if they look slightly bloated... that's what the score marks are for, they allow for expansion and gas release as they often fail.

The HDMI ports on my Samsung 32" 1080P TV all uplorry some time back. Out of warranty.

Given that it's next to impossible to get a brand new 32" that's full 1080p nowadays, I'm looking around for repairs.

Dunno if it's a straightforward fix for a tv repairman. Anyone got lobang?

Just another thumbs up for limtk55.

My LG 65UH950T encountered flickering. He collected my TV on Friday, and handed it back on Sunday. Problem solved for a extremely reasonable amount. Only thing is that he's a one man show, so gotta help him. LG quoted me more just to come take a look, excluding any repair cost!

Do you plug in/out your HDMI cables very often? Have you tried jiggling the cable to get a response or an image? If you have already tried this and all the other HDMI ports, then it is likely a case of HDMI control chip failure.
