so my parents' 2015 Samsung Curved TV 65HU9000 decided to stop working. I can hear audio but don't see any video.

any advice on repair?
Samsung quoted $160 + parts

Samsung ua55es6200m, out of warranty. One time it stopped working suddenly; I noticed visually bulging caps on the main board so I just removed them and resoldered some new ones and then it was fine.

It has worked since but then recently has developed an intermittent fault with one string of backlights - randomly, the lower one won't light up. Maybe 25% of the time.

I've never DIYed backlight replacement before. Anyone know if it's straightforward on Samsung LEDs? Are the individual strips cheap to replace?

It doesn't seem impractical:

not like repairing a glued-together mobile phone encased in 0.1mm glass or something

although on reflection, given that it works most of the time, I'm vaguely wondering if I should be looking at the driver board instead of the LED strip. Not sure how I would be able to identify the part at fault, given that I can't reproduce the problem reliably...
