Just to check does anyone know those old HDB estates that last time using roof top
antenna one, can that be connected to the TV Tuner to get digital signal. Cos I noticed
the TV/FM sockets still there (besides the SH Cable point) but need to get a very long
coaxial cable to reach my room PC using the Avertv Dual Hybrid PCI-E card. Before
spending $$ just want to have a confirmation 1st. Thks.

forget about HD5.
Seems like got to get an Antenna liao.... Any recommendation? Best is no need power source
type. Btw I staying at Kallang area, so any known good or poor signal in this area?

Can receive TV mobile but not others? I thought should be able to. I use the coaxial cable (my hdb got rooftop antenna) on my tuner to receive all channels of analog, digital tv and analog FM. All have good reception.

RU on high or low floor?
if on low floor you may get better chance by aiming at a nearby tall building to receive the reflected signal. Buy an antennae with director & reflector for better directional gain.

For HD5 you need a UHF type antennae [Channel 38 (610 MHz) ]

If stay in private semi-D or Bungalow can consider a full-sized array:) It is best left in the hands of proffessionals hear as roof-top mounting is involved.

basically, the Yagi type has high sensitivity, very directional but narrow bandwidth, so you need a large sized one for lower channels (lower VHF), and a small sized one for higher channels - upper VHF/UHF.
A good bandwidth can be expected if it comes with a V-shaped reflector at the back and the various directors are very much shorter than the active folded dipole element.
The Log-Periodic type has high bandwidth but not so sensitive but covers more channels.

Indoor type are best hooked up with a signal booster for better result unless you are on high floors.

Maybe becos of your location? I should be consider at the highest floor (12th flr) in my block
but there are also 24 storey building surrounded. Since I used the old TV socket point linked
to HDB roof top antenna, high or low flr doesn't matter right :s11:
And yes no matter how many times I scan for channels, only TVMobile detected.
So right now just using the SH Cable Point, and all analog channels (+ FM radio stations)
no problem. Just hope to get HD5 and all digital channels since my TV card supported
that. If due to my location cannot receive those then bopian lor.

Doesn't matter which floor you stay since all by cable to reach the antenna.

Rooftop antenna is more powerful than any antenna we buy and install ourselves, should not be a problem on our location, we can even receive analog channels from malaysia and they can receive from us, no need to say within singapore. Btw, I stay in sembawang.

I think it's your settings.

But the settings like quite straight forward leh ... Choose Digital Source then choose
AutoScan. Even tried Choose Scan Frequency which take much longer time as it scan
very slowly. Still only TVMobile detected.

ever since the TV signal delivery for HDB is contracted to SCV, the roof-top antennae is left to rot and I doubt if they take any more action to repair anymore. If you still get all channel is a bonus. Furthermore the signals pass thru filters so foreign commercial channels are blocked.
HD5 certainly no have since it is a late turn out.

But I look at my block those roof top antenna looks rather new and in
good shape leh. Anyway I probably will go source for a antenna (those no need power
source one) and hopefully my area can get good digital signal :s8:

like to ask something. what is the main differences between the digital tuners that are avaiable as in like why is the prices ranges so far apart.

i can see from edmw where they purchase off from dealextreme costing around 30 bucks sg. and comparing some in sls which can go up to 100+.

is it that they lack of recording capability or something? and also. is it better worth to get both analog and digital or just 1 will do?

HD5 is transmitting on Channel 38 in the UHF Band (Frequency = 610MHz)
The HDB rooftop won't have this so you gotta get your own indoor one. At this freq. the size is actually quite small so a decent UHF antenna (or add a booster) would serve well. Just mount at the window or balcony.
It should measure about 19" width for the active element at full wavelength.
Can connect this with the one on wall that comes from HDB rooftop using an A-B antenna switch.

My house comes with only SCV point by default, with rooftop antenna, about 15 years old. What for they install the antenna if not in used?

Roof top antenna good for FM radio. =) But you still can get terrestrial channels though but quality not as good compared to the SCV cable TV point.

what's the difference between

AVerTV DVI Box 1080i

and

AVerTV Duo Hybrid PCI-E II

only main difference is portability? if so, why are the prices almost the same?

I'm looking for a tv tuner for my desktop, able to plug gaming consoles like ps3 and that can record tv programs.
Preferably something that doesnt need alot of wire shifting after initial setup.

The main difference is hybrid and analog only. Hybrid means can watch both digital and analog tv. in this case, has two tuners so can watch one and record another channel.
require not many cable, just one antenna cable, and one for composite input cable.

digtial tuner range should be 30-70, and both analog/digital tuners go up to 100+
important features to note:

1) sensitivity-able to receive signals better
2) stablility- not hang or get too hot when operate after a few hours
3) software- good software that bundle with the tuner can have alot of functions and features
4) warranty
