Looks like its not a hard no, so I guess we can still do that :D
do note that the picnic area is outside USJ, meaning you will need to exit USJ.

https://www.usj.co.jp/web/en/us/service-guide/rules-manners#prohibited-itemsalso, these are the list of prohibited items (in above URL).

You can however bring these into USJ (also in same URL).
* Baby food or snacks for small children may be brought into the park.
* Thermoses and plastic bottles may be brought into the park. However, these are limited to one 500 ml container per person.

Very helpful info!

According to usj ticketing site

â—ŹWe apologize that currently Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued outside Japan are not available until further notice.
I just applied for AMEX CC, hopefully it'll be able to buy,

I believe it is more crowded between Fri and Mon. Do you want to consider between Tues to Thurs?

There's a crowd calendar that you might want to use for reference?
Not sure how accurate it is though (https://tdrexplorer.com/universal-studios-japan-crowd-calendar/). There's a graphical guide and a link to the "crowd calendar" in that webpage above.

Super Nintendo World can take up to whole day (with the queues) if you want to partake in all their mini-games/activities and rides (most of them would require the use of the Power-up Band for a better and immersive experience). My family spent pretty much the 3/4 of day there at SNW on 1st day, and half a day on 2nd day.

Harry Potter wasn't that crowded when I went in the evening (as per my allocated timed entry from my express pass), but there wasn't anyone checking our timed entry tickets (goes to show that it wasn't crowded hence no enforcement).

Do take note of the height limit (https://www.usj.co.jp/web/en/us/service-guide/safe) for the rides, which your 4 year old might be constrained (just my assumption for his/her height). Something to consider when buying the express pass for your 4 year old.

Do note about the "Child Switch" (https://www.usj.co.jp/web/en/us/attractions/how-to-fun#child-switch) system that USJ have that allows parents to take turn on the rides when you have a young one who is not eligible for.

Drawing my example, my 3 year old was not eligible (height) to ride the Mario Kart, so my wife and I had to take turns (with 1 parent staying back with my 3 year old at their waiting room). Good thing is that my 5 year old get to ride Mario Kart twice consecutively with each parent (express pass only allows 1 usage of express queue for designated ride). Bad thing, my 3 year old can't really enjoy (and does get grumpy) when we go for these rides (something to note).

Download the usj app to see wait times for the attractions. Details such as height restrictions, child switch are indicated also

It really depends on your preference to how much time you want to allocate to each area.
I guess my young kids were also pretty fascinated and entertained in SNW, hence the hours spent there.

From my observation, as I have mentioned else where in this forum, when I was there in SNW (final wk of Dec 22), it was packed from morning to night, which seems like bulk of the USJ crowd were in SNW, as I noticed the areas (other than SNW) were much less crowded in comparison.

Harry potter in morn, SNW in noon, I guess it's alright though it may be a bit rushed?
Also, you might want to first check out the different combinations of timed entry timing for both areas (when you are buying the express pass) to see if this timing combination (one in morning, one in noon) exist.

Just to share my ticket purchase experience in another post if you haven't saw it yet (https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/universal-studio-japan.5437362/post-146187837).
Some of thing things mentioned may not be valid now (eg. wakuwari discount, klook being cheaper etc).
But just in case you face similar purchasing issues.

Personally, I have always adhered to the online tips/guidance and have not went to any Japanese theme parks across the weekends, so I can't comment on how bad it can be. But it does make sense that it would be more crowded across the weekends, if you think about it. Especially with Japanese's strong love and support for their theme parks.

Haven't been there, but info tells me preferred day is Tues-Thur is the best. Try to reschedule your itinerary. It will be tiring with all the queue and crowd even with express. Dec will be worse due to holiday and more tourists.

Not only the rides which you can reduce with fast pass. Queues for snacks will be long. Can be difficult to get seats are restaurants.

oh yah, speaking of restaurants, do look out and grab the free "timed-entry tickets" for them too. :ROFLMAO:

The staff will be standing outside the restaurant and hand them out. I believe it is more for those popular ones.

For me, I got my "tickets" for the Kinopio's Cafe (inside SNW) and Saido (currently having colab with Jujutsu Kaisen; near entrance of Minion's area).

The restaurants have staff stationed outside the restaurant, giving out time-based entry tickets to the restaurant so that you can come back to the restaurant at a later time (specified time range on the ticket) with priority entry. Walk-ins not allowed at that point.

For example, You are there at the restaurant at maybe 11am, and they are giving out for tickets labeled "1.30pm to 2.30pm". With the ticket, you can come back to the restaurant any time between 1.30 to 2.30pm.

I am not sure if they do that for all restaurants, but I suspect maybe it is only for those popular ones.

The thing is you have to be physically there earlier to pick up these restaurant's "time-entry ticket".
Not sure how that will play out for your plan to have lunch at Harry Potter's area.
But well, a FYI on the plausible option that may open up to you.
