try not to stay anywhere near taxi, they always like to speed on highway then jam brake when approaching speed cam. Got one time a taxi cut from lane 1 to lane 3 just because of a passenger, almost kana accident

Haha jokes. Show me hw many pple gt fine for travelling between 90-100 on lane 1 first besides blocking emergench vehicle

as I mention..you can traveling at 90-100 on lane 1..but once traffic build up behind you and you refuse to change to lane 2 to let other pass,,you will be fine for hogging..
if those behind you overtake you on the left and speed above 100 to drive pass you..they will get fine for overtake on the left and speeding..

Ask TP what speed you can travel on lane 1 to overtake cars and lets see what is the answer.

They catch many..like lorry, truck not in lane 3...road hogging, speeding, reckless driving...etc

btw,,their answer will be..you should only use the lane 1 to over take and at speed limit..after that move back to lane 2..and you should not stay on lane 1

every post on this topic eventually goes down this route. no point arguing. the retards which advocate hogging the overtaking lane will kene during life or death situation, maybe family die without seeing them for last time.

since this thread is about unoffical rules in driving..why are so many people getting worked up and going on endlessly about the "road hogging" issue since it is actually an offence(official law)

my last post on this issue.

its not about absolute speed, its about relative speed and traffic flows. you can be a hogger at 60km/h, you can be a hogger at 100km/h, you can also be a hogger at 150km/h. please get that concept right first.

if you are uncomfortable with the speed which you need to travel at in order not to impede the vehicle which you're blocking, move left, let him pass, and go back right after - rather than forcing the vehicle to cut unsafely to the left, speed up and back right ahead of you

that's the basic concept of roadhogging. why is it so difficult to understand...

hahas , hate most was driver who drive 60 or 70 at lane 2 , when u switch lane to lane 1 overtaking it , driving around 100 trying to get back lane 2 , lane 2 car was like purposely step brake nor slow down .

What's wrong with 70kmh on highway 2nd lane? So you want them to go at what, 100kmh? Then 1st lane go at what, 120kmh? You want everyone to be speeding??

Correct, U can only overtake at Speed Limit on Lane 1, so as long as you are travelling faster than the cars in Lane 2, you will still be "overtaking" and will not be caught for Road Hogging. During Peak hour, 99% of the time you will be travelling faster than the cars on Lane 2 so Road Hoggers will only filter to the left when they want to exit the expressway.

No problem at all, I always travel at 50km/h on Lane 2. Safety comes first.

A simple "rule" is just simply to keep left, whenever possible, so as not to hold up the traffic behind.

So difficult for fellow drivers here to understand? I rest my case.

.don't roadhog on lane 1 even if you are travelling >= speed limit

.don't purposely accelerate when people signal to change into your lane. that's spastic and u waste gas. if the person that is changing lane decides to go proceed with the lane change. yes, you might be able to claim insurance but it's a hassle and causes inconvenience to everyone. (There is a reason why some people signal just secs/moments before they lane change. because in singapore drivers are like bulls and signal lights are like red cloth. when they see signal light they like to chiong)

.don't bo tai bo ji step brake. use engine brake and lift your feet off the accelerator.

you dun need last min signal to know they are doing this stunt. u just need to see if the vehicle beside you slows down and moving closer to your lane esp. the dotted lines even if there's no traffic in front of him, if yes speed up and deny him to come in, if you are a bull driver.

wa....u might as well drive a SAF land rover better, even a 60km/h tipper which sticks to the speed limit also faster than you.

To those who like to tailgate because you wanna drive at 150, but say others hog the road, i guess one day there is an accident or you kiss the front cars ass and yours becomes a transformer, you won't say that any more.

There seems to be some "unofficial" rule or mindset in certain drivers that when called a road hogger, everyone else is a speedster, tailgater, or deathseeker.

I don't know about them but when i see someone blocking the flow of traffic on lane 1, he is a road hogger to me even when i'm travelling within speed limit, have a safe following distance, and value my safety more than anything else. In fact, it is because i value safety hence i detest road hoggers as they cause other drivers to get impatient and undertake or pull stunts to get out of being blocked on the road by the road hogger. And when other drivers do so, they may endanger other motorists on the road, including me. Some may say, the blame should be on the impatient drivers as they choose to be reckless.

But well, it is cause and effect. All i know is, it doesn't take much to be gracious on the road and give way to others. Drive safe.

"Road hogging is proscribed under Rule 5 of the Road Traffic Rules, which states that (a) every vehicle which is moving at a slow rate of speed shall be driven as close to the left-hand side of the roadway as possible, and (b) every vehicle shall at all times be driven in such manner as not to obstruct vehicles moving at a faster speed. Breach of that Rule is an offence under Section 131 of the Road Traffic Act, which attracts a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine or 3 months’ imprisonment for the first offence, and a $2,000 fine or 6 months’ imprisonment for a second or subsequent offence. Where a person is convicted of the offence, four demerit points will also be awarded under the Driver Improvement Points System."
