not sure anyone encountered this before. but i wanted to share my experience with the giro system

one month ago, i got my uob1 card. i immediately send the giro form in so that the expenses on my card could be deducted from my uob1 account. two weeks later, i saw on the internet banking that the giro was active. i was happy as i can start to enjoy the 2.43% interest this month

yesterday, i went into the internet banking and realized that the giro was not deducted. I called in and ask why this is so.

the reply from the pinoy teller was something like that,

mr oppoguy, your giro is not active yet. it requires 4 to 6 weeks to be active. although it is active when you view it at your internet banking account, it is not active.

quite rubbish answer, right?

because of this, i will not be receiving 2.43% this month.

yes, i set up the giro according to your procedure. yes, i understood the giro process.

on the giro payment screen on my screen, it shows that it is active. I thought this is the way uob informs me that the giro is active. there is even an effective date that the giro is active. but it is not active.

giro should be considered "active" only when shown in cc statement -

For my posb cc:

Any Full Amount due will be deducted from bank account XXXXX. GIRO deduction date: XX Nov 2015

i had my uob one account activated on Oct 13.
Immediately i took the new account details in the letter UOB sent to my HR payroll for crediting my salary...unfortunately my salary cannot be credited, HR says transfer unsuccessful..so i tot maybe my acc is not active.

i waited and today i did a internet transfer to my one account again. Its not unsuccessful and i tot maybe rhb had an issue so i did a test and tried to transfer to my ocbc account. it went through...man i was curious..i gave uob a call...asking which part i did wrongly...UOB says nothing is wrong with my account, the internet transfer is active too and pushes the problem back to my HR and RHB..damn..

therefore i like to know, is it only me or there are other ppl with issues like mine with their UOB one account?

Tonight i am gg to do an atm transfer from ocbc to uob one account, if its still fail i am gg to cancel this account and stick with Ocbc 360 too bad i have to pay the 30 dollars early closure fee.

Quite disappointed as the first time i had an issue with UOB is paying my company corporate credit card. Maybe i cant have an UOB account or their cards. :D

yes, as someone already posted, u shld wait for the bank (BO) to inform u it is active, either via letter or stated in your credit card statement.

UOB tracks their end of processing the giro request in IB, they approved and ready to do it, but waiting for the BO (in your case UOB CC) to approve and initiate the transaction (this part UOB dun track in their system). It is the BO's responsibility to inform u of the status of processing and when they will start the giro.

Yes 4-6 weeks to complete the processing, we all experience the same process and have to miss the additional interest for 1-2 mths, hahaha

hahaha, cool down, to earn bonus interest first u must have min $500 cc spend, do this and your money will earn 1.6%, then try to giro your salary again, or arrange 3 giros, why pay $30 for early closure, hahaha

Or perhaps.. at most if you really really die die hate UOB so much that you can't stand them... You can don't put money inside but they charge you $2 fall below fee every month, on the 7th month then you cancel and at most pay penalty $12?

$12 better than $30 lar? But I still think you're being rash, lol.

hahaha, u are also being rash lor, assuming u can earn 3.55% interest on $500 per mth = 1.46, hahaha not even enough to pay the $2 to UOB, ie it is better to put $500 in the a/c and close it after 6mths, hahaha, u can still make 2c per mth, hahaha

it's v much depends on what was shown on the last pg of the cc statement. it will for sure deduct thru giro if it shows giro instead of a due date. ;)

Appreciate your help. I have a question,

For UOB one account 3 GIRO payments, what are the eligible billing organization? When I try to setup GIRO payments at the UOB IB, they only allow me to select HDB and IRAS related payments.

Only these payments are available? Could we pay Singtel, SP power, and other billing organization?

Thanks

Most bills can be paid using GIRO, including those you have listed. The full list is here http://www.uob.com.sg/personal/ebanking/pib/billing_organisation_list.html

The more common billing organizations people link to UOB One account include UOB Card Centre (payment for UOB credit card), IRAS (12 month installment income tax and property tax considered 2 GIRO transactions),other bank credit card centres, insurance. Use the form here to apply for GIRO http://www.uob.com.sg/assets/pdfs/personal/useful/giro.pdf

Thanks a lot!

For the UOB one acc 3.33% interest to work, would we have to link the GIRO to the one acc? or it would work if we link to any credit cards?

Can link uob one acct to pay via giro for any credit cards, including uob credit cards. Bill for the credit card need to be min $10 for giro to trigger. Btw the 3.33% only applies to the higher tier, overall effective interest only 2.43% max

From personal experience it is a LOT faster if you go to the actual organization and use their forms instead of the UOB form.

Took me only about a week to switch my town council and insurance payments instead of the 4-6 weeks UOB was quoting.

When I did my tax GIRO it showed as active on UOB ibanking but not to IRAS so the tax officer had to do the switch for me too.
