Yup, there are rare occasion but yes. Amazon Prime somehow refund some money as they thought goods not delivered. Likely delivery contractor did not use their apps correctly.

Called them that goods were delivered and they will charge again.

This type of ambush we can't control.

You can only know when you receive the bill but it is too late.

For other CC, the risk is only for that month spending so you can write them off if you want. For this card, it is accumulative of 3 months spending.

if you know there is a potential refund coming, u need to charge excess instead of $2k mark, i make it a habit to check 5 days before the statement cycle ends, any refunds or shortfall i top it up to telco. Having said that you can appeal for the $300, i think they gave one exception per customer.

If i use UOB one card to pay for
town council S&CC
starhub
SPS utility bill
singtel bill

Does it count towards the monthly $500 spending?

first no, rest yes.

We suspect they took it down recent as when we view it in April before we sent our feedback, its still there.

1 month notice on ? There is this problem on the "posting dates" mechanism.

Merchant has many reasons to refund and recharge a transaction so no one have control over these.

To penalise consumer on these technicality with genuine spending is the issues. A control mechanism cannot be used to manage something that no one can control.

Website "All Spend" taken down but android phone version still "ALL Spend".

If you are travelling, not advisable. Again, how much excess you need to buffer in as you will never know what sort of refunds are coming in.

Appeal should not be only once as there are many reasons and the probability will increase as they increase the number of excluded transaction or more T&C.

If they are genuine spending of above $2000 less those clear cases listed, merchant like Sing Post, SAFRA, Hospital are question mark. Even their CS are confused.

WHat if the refund comes in on the last 2 days ? Even if you caught it, the additional spending will not be posted in time.

You can generally appeal those. They've been pretty reasonable so far for me when appealing about late posting and/or misleading codes.

I am not sure if I have been wols or UOB has sneaked in a FAQ, https://www.uob.com.sg/assets/pdfs/frequently-asked-question.pdf. In the FAQ, it spells out that Government Hospitals and Polyclinics are excluded.

DBS has the same exclusion for Government Institutions and Services but I have been getting rewards points for clinical services and pharmacy at Govt Hospitals. Similarly, there are banks that offer rebates specific to medical services so I am not sure how UOB will exclude them if the MCC are not Government Institutions and Services related.

As mentioned previously, UOB used to explicitly mention something about medical to exclude charge slips from medical services to be used for redemption promotion.

.

i wont risk it on safra and hosptial bills, singpost should be ok. Having said that u should try appealing, i have appealed a few times for my UOB one spend and UOB one bonus interest due to refunds or charging to govt merchants, they always gave an exception.

Based on my experience UOB has never turned me down for any appeal, and i appealed more than once.

Of course i will be polite and inform the CSO what to write in the appeal e.g no control on refund, privilege banking customer, $X AUM etc

Hence we really need a precise list. Like mentioned, we once paid at NAtional Heart Centre Counter with another bank's CC but they deem it was not clinic or hospital as somehow the MCC code was an online transaction code. They gave me the lowest rebate for a $700+ transactions.

to be fair banks will never be able to provide a comprehensive list of MCC codes, banks started to have all these exclusions because ppl abuse the rebate by topping up ezlink, fevo, cardup etc. I always have a AMEX truecashback card as back up, anything unsure i will charge it for 3%. I only use UOB for legitimate spend like Fnb, petrol etc where there is zero chance of refund or exclusion. If you want their rebates, you have to go along with their rules

SingPost not OK. My last quarter rebate was not credited because of a $2 SingPost spending in Jan. It tooks 3 phone calls to appeal and follow up, only got the positive sms reply about 3 weeks after my first call.
What solution uob gave you for the refund or gov merchant?

thought singpost is a publicly traded entity, should be considered private ltd mah. i only rem i charged to town council in march, they said all customers will be given an exception since the tnc were released in feb. Then in april i didnt hit the 3 giro bills for uob one account due to a CC refund, called in and they credited the interest. I think they are pretty easy going actually..

I think if they are clear as per listed, we are fine.

If MCC code are not controllable, should we use them ? If you use them knowing that they can be inaccurate, there should be a mechanism to pay back the rebate. Similar to uncontrolled refund.

This mechanism should not be restricted to certain group as now it seems like they do allow many "appeals".

Whether topping up EZ-link card is abusing is subjective. Not many people can chalk up those spending on purely petrol, FnB etc. Not for 3 consecutive months anyway.

Yes we have other cards and it is our prerogative to use it in future. However, we'll need to get back those rebate we've genuinely spent, feedback on the unfair practices to ensure that common consumers are protected.

The T&Cs cannot be only to the bank's advantage.

I would avoid those obviously gov one like ica lta… I also never thought SingPost is classified under gov. It is unexpected.
Change of tnc was released in Dec. Just that it written effective from 1st-Feb. But uob did not clearly explain. Most people understood it will affect those posted from 1st - Feb onwards, never expect Jan spending in Feb statement is effected.

Your cc refund case, you manage to get back both bonus interest and cc cashback? Just give or uob request u to do anything before they can give back?
