UOB being sneaky as usual. Received a marketing email on 3 May about new 10% rebate for simplygo transactions. Was feeling happy about it but then saw the tnc that retail spendings enjoyed cashback of up to 3.3%. Feeling puzzled and now I realised they reduced the 5% rebate to 3.3% for $2000 monthly spending effective from 1 May. Wow, they never inform anything about this at all before 1 May.

I have 8 credit cards with UOB & have not had an issue with fee waivers in a long long time.

good for you, mate. you must be a big client of UOB to have 8 cards with them and so they allow to waive your cards since... forever.

that said my assumption is that they will always grant waiver if we only have 1 card with them. so I don't need to worry or keep calling in to pester them for waiver. just live simple and be content... so far some folks here have reported not being granted waiver when they have both One + Absolute cards.

Have you got this? Any issue with paying for insurance (directly) with this card?
No issue paying using Friz debit card to Prudential and AIA. Cashback received immediately. There are bonus cashback from referral and initial topup also.

Wat thing sneaky?
under the T&C, bank has the right to change the rewards at any time.
The fact that they update the website, upload Pdf explanation and advance notice even before the Jul effective date is very good liao. They have done their due.d.

You missed my point; it's that your assumption is wrong. There is no rule that UOB (or any bank, for that matter) will not grant a waiver when you have more than 1 card. It's possible & you don't have to be a private banking customer (because I'm not). I can even tell you for a fact that it's possible for UOB not to give you a waiver if you only have 1 card with them; happened to my wife, in fact.

so far some folks here have reported not being granted waiver when they have both One + Absolute cards.

& now I am giving you a data point that it's possible to have both (for many years; since the Absolute card was known as the Preferred Platinum Amex, in fact) & they have been waiving the annual fee every year.

Brilliant, thanks!

UOB One for 3.33% + 5% (for spending with partners) still works well for lower spending tiers ($500 or $1000).

it's only for $2000 that maybe need to reconsider if it's worth continuing to use cardup/ipaymy. even so, 1.48% (3.33% - 1.85%) is not *that* far off from 1.7%. just bite the bullet rather than upending so many arrangements. furthermore if can continue to hit $2000, the partner cashback will increase to 6.67%.

personally will likely continue with UOB One. too much hassle to maintain two cards and worry about annual fee waiver... the anxiety can be frustrating.

caveat: I'm assuming UOB will always grant fee waiver if we only have one (1) card with them.
Think the risk will be there in the event you happen to miss the $2000 mark.. you will lose the 1.85%.. so it's definitely safer on the other side..

Agree. The quarterly rebate is to customer's disadvantage. Plus the quarterly rebate is given only if you spend in the month after end of quarter.

So if get slap annual fee in the 2nd or 3rd month that they won't waive, past month's spending is wasted. This was what happened to me. I already hit the spending for mth 1 and 2. But they rejected appeal so I have to cancel the card in mth 3.

I find it very strange that you have 8 cards with UOB and they waive all your cards... But your wife has only one card with them and they didn't waive for her.

Anyway this is the Internet and anyone can say anything without... proof?

Okok, so you are "right" and I'm "wrong". Unfortunately what you say doesn't change the way I see things though. So thank you for your effort nonetheless. ✌️

Well it was fun while it lasted. Now to move all of my spending to other deserving cards. No longer have to fear missing out on $200 of the $300 cashback due to a technicality on certain spend not qualified for one of the months.

I think it really depends on your spending patterns...

fuss-free cards mostly come with lower rebates/cashback (low min. spend, fewer restrictions, etc.)
- SC Unlimited (1.5%)
- Amex True Cashback (1.5%)
- Citibank Cashback+ (1.6%)
- UOB Absolute (1.7%)
above are some of the favorites?

cards with higher cashback/rebates come with more conditions (higher min. spend, capped for certain category of spending, applicable only for online, etc.)
- so many different conditions that it's difficult to list objectively

can "window shop" to see the various types of cards before choosing one that suits you the most, not just what everyone else has. can look at some sites like singsaver or seedly or moneysmart to compare...

I am using citi smart + dbs live fresh.. both got 5% cashback..

For DBS live will spend max $400 online + $400 paywave.. minimum $600

For Citi smrt will spend on supermarket + online.. minimum $500

Can do $500 for UOB to make use of Grab and Shopee transactions.. if you shop with giant and cold storage guardian can use this card also.

Anyone putting HSBC Advance into considerations?

Toying with the idea of fully switching ONE card & account to HSBC's instead..

+1. HSBC is best with almost fuss free 2.5%, and 3.5% if you spend between $2,000 to $2,800.

Cheapo, tnc change a bit, cry cancel card, go cancel, bank don't need ppl like u who think they get rich by saving bits, u shd use the time spend on canceling card or figuring out which cc gives u the best rebate to generate income

this is good option provided that it's for $2k and above from general spendings, but looks like more than half the people who remarked are ipaymy or cardup payers. HSBC excludes this 2 from the cashback so they have limited options for those 2.
