I'm so pissed off with UOB more and more. It seems like their services are going from bad to worse. And I am suspecting their business integrity. Their CSOs are really incompetent in addressing concerns and they don't take pride in resolving issues promptly and effectively.
timeline:
10 Oct - received a refund from an overseas merchant for $X
12 Oct - received an EXTRA refund from UOB (CR ** DISPUTES) for $Y because of the transaction dispute
$X not = $Y because it's an overseas currency so the merchant refunded in the foreign currency and it was converted into SGD, while the bank refunded in SGD.
the bank is supposed to claw back the extra refund ($Y). I called the bank last week to prompt them to do so and the lady promised it will be done by early this week. It was not done.
I web-chat their CSO again early this week, because I was concerned about my upcoming bill payment (which would take into account the refunds). I waited and waited...
lo and behold, today the bank posted the auto payment for card bill, AND it was for the WRONG refund. Instead of using the refund from the merchant ($X), they used the refund from themselves ($Y).
In other words they want to refund me $Y instead of $X. but guess what? $Y < $X . In other words, they intend to refund me lesser than what I should have received from the merchant.
I called a third time today and questioned the bank's motives:
- Why they did not use the actual refund from the merchant? the difference is $12 (in SGD)
- Why they did not post the claw back?
the CSO can only say he will 'escalate' to the team and said that the refunds will be posted again in my next bill which will be after 31 Oct.
I wonder if I should report this to MAS? Do they have a platform for customers to lodge complaints against banks? I'm suspicious that they are trying to pocket the difference by refunding me lesser than what the merchant had (and blaming it on currency exchange fluctuations). anyone experience such a screw up and mess up situation before?
I'm now very wary whether I want to restart using their card next month because it's a brand new cycle (Nov - Jan). the bank already made me lost my quarterly cashback for the current cycle (Aug - Oct) due to another refund incident (which caused my eligible spend to drop below $500).
