Most CSOs are lazy, so they will ask you what you are paying for. If you tell them income tax payment, they will automatically tell you that it is not eligible.

Like others say, you'd have to ask for the MCC for that particular transaction, or just say is online transaction, and you would like to check if that transaction is eligible.

Edited: I did the UOB chat and asked about my ipaymy and cardup transactions (non-rent), CSO claims both are eligible.
Yes, the CSO was lazy. I didn't tell him what I paid for. He simply said ipaymy falls under govt sector and concluded it's not eligible. After I asked him to help me double-check, he got back to me saying the MCC is 7399, which is eligible.

One of my $107 transaction showing “PAYPAL*GOURMETTREN”,will this consider eligible One Card spending? Does all PAYPAL txn excluded? Or only certain? Thanks

You may check the latest One Card T&C, Exclusion section where the Paypal exclusions are list.

I paid my condo fee on 1 April via Cardup, just to try out. After this transaction being posted into my UOB One card, I called UOB on 3 April and learnt that the MCC of this transaction is 6513, which is excluded after 16 March. This is despite of Cardup's confirmation on 24 March :'Yes, you will be eligible for the bank's cash rebates via CardUp.'

Launching complaint on Monday.

oh no... that's not cool. my scheduled MCST payment is due in a few days time, i'll email them now to confirm... otherwise i'm switching to ipaymy too.

actually if your payment is shown as processing, I suggest you email them now. They can do a full refund to the card as long as the money is not transferred yet. I've done it before.... make them full refund and if you still have time, make another payment via cardup and make sure they charge under the correct MCST.

Return of experience to share.

I did contact Cardup and they refund this payment. Called UOB yesterday to check the eligible spend of month-to-date.

I was told the month-to-date spend is:
actual posted tranaction sum ($2300) - original Cardup charge which is not eligible ($203.98) - Cardup refund of the same ($203.98) = $1892.04
I was quite lucky to know this on 28 April before too late to clock the shortfall.

Thinking back why my condo fee payment was categorised under MCC 6519 instead of 7399. Most likely Cardup offered me 1.99% (which always links to MCC6513) fee for condo fee payment.

Edit: It seems Cardup permanently assigned 1.99% fee to all my transactions and automatically under MCC6513

Edit 2: Refund is deducted from eligible spend, meaning refund make life tougher to reach spending target. Better not to ask for refund?

Not aware of that, So if I pay $1000 via Cardup and with 1.99% fees, even OUB Charge the CC $1019.90, but the eligible Card spending is still $1000.
UOB know how much % Cardup fees for that transaction?

seems like transactions made using the 1.9% code are all captured under MCC 6513

transactions done WITHOUT using any promo code, and possibly other promo codes are mostly captured MCC 7399

despite CardUp claiming/stating that all transactions done on their platform are eligible for rebates and will continue to remain the same, ultimately it's the bank paying out the rebates so it will take a brave soul to experiment (and potentially 'waste' a quarter to find out the answer)

Hm. If pay through ipaymy, to iras it will just be a fund transfer, no fee incurred by iras. We pay ipaymy a fee for doing this.

Hi Trazora and all, does it work if we do a fund transfer to the iras account instead? Hmm...

yes if cardup does a refund and its used to offset the ineligible cardup charge still ok, but if the refund is used to offset your eligible uob transactions really can bang wall.

The whole point of using ipaymy is so that you can earn credit card rewards. You don’t get any rewards for doing a fund transfer to IRAS.

Hi Seth, is it possible to obtain the NOA for the IRAS income tax online? Don't think I've received the physical letter yet...

to eliminate all your problem whether is it government, excluded merchant code, all you need to do the following:
install grab app
add one card into grab pay
top up grabpay wallet using one card
pay using grab pay and your one card statement will show it is coming from grab instead of hospital, government, excluded merchant and etc...
make sure you hit $500 min every month.

on top of that, I applied for grabpay card and add the grabpay card information into my Samsung pay.
so I earn cash rebate for my one card, one bonus interest, grab points and Samsung pay points(used to earn additional 5% for Grab transaction but I think they revised it and it doesn't apply to wallet top up anymore this march 2020).

if i add grabpay card to favepay and hit the minimum card spending of $500, i get all the rebates, interest and points and also favepay cashback.

hope it helps!

quote from UOB website "Enjoy an additional 5% rebate on Grab (excludes mobile wallet top-ups w.e.f. 16 Mar 2020) and UOB Travel Planner (excludes online, flight only bookings and relevant taxes) transactions when you qualify for your quarterly cash rebate, and and enjoy up to S$2,400 cash rebate in a year! "

it will not affect your $50 cash rebate for min$500 spending per month.
it will affect the additional cash rebate if your transactions are grab and topping up wallet.

unless i misinterpret it wrongly.

as of last month, i still get all the rebates and bonus interest.

Terms and Conditions
Wef 16 Mar 2020, please be informed that selected transactions such as Grab mobile wallet top-ups, wire transfers, payments to Non-Financial Institutions (such as crypto-currencies etc), quasi-cash and more will be excluded from the awarding of cash rebate on the UOB One Card and bonus interest on the UOB One Account. For clarity, all other Grab transactions will continue to be eligible for the awarding of cash rebate on the UOB One Card.

Though the TnC in pdf only say no more additional 5% for grab topup.

When is your quarter and when you receive rebate? And you topup after 16 Mar?
