Hi all

I need some advice on whether to upgrade current (~5yo) or DIY a new setup for the upcoming Diablo 4.
I will be running it on a 1440p 60Hz monitor.

I5-7500 on ASRock H270M ITX
NH-L9i cooler
Silverstone SG13
Palit GTX 1060 3GB
G.Skill 2 x 4GB DDR4 2400CL15
500 GB M.2 Nvme SSD
Corsair SF450

This setup has served me well for Diablo3 at 1440p.

My initial thought was to upgrade the ram and then the GPU to a 2nd hand RTX 2060, but not sure if my PSU can handle it anot, or will my CPU bottleneck?

What items are worth upgrading?
I don't mind 2nd hand parts and hope to game on it for the next 3yrs.

Any advice is greatly welcomed, thanks!

Release date is 6.6.2023. 6 months away. Maybe wait and see? Blizzard also hasn't announced the System Requirements for Diablo IV.

Have no idea what will be a good upgrade at the moment. 2nd hand cards won't be affected by GST 8% next year so don't have to worry.

Ya, 450W is enough for 2060 Super. Googled 2060 Super power consumption and full system load is only 300W~

If you plan to play in the Closed and Open Beta, sure, you can look at an upgrade to 2060 Super.

Based on Blizzard/Activision track records. They won't make it difficult to run. You will be surprised that your 1060 will probably still run well for diablo 4.

ok cool, thanks all for the advice.
think i'll hold my $$ until the game lands and see how my current one holds up.

another question, is it recommended to re-apply thermal paste after 5yrs?
I used the noctua paste previously

Also, my current MB only supports up to 2400 for RAM.
So if I buy RAM with higher clock, will they be automatically down-justed to suit my MB?

Or I can only install 2400 RAM?

If you run Hwinfo and see that CPU temperatures aren't high or overheating, its fine to continue using the current thermal paste. Noctua pastes last very long.

Yes, your motherboard is an H270, does not support overclocking of RAM. It will downclock to 2400mhz even if you get higher speed RAM. Only the Intel z270 chipset has overclocking.

Yeah, in terms of video quality, D4 looks likes a minor improvement over D3 nia, but like you mentioned, mine is at the lower end yah.

Points noted, thanks!

Really appreciate advice from you guys, I feel it's more reliable than random articles on google.
