The Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks
Jan 8, 2021

Berkshire barely is positive over the past year returning only 2% against the S&P 500’s 17%. That is not good news for his shareholders. And yet, the share value of Berkshire is running at a big premium to its investments with a price to intrinsic (book) value at 1.31 times making his own stock not a Buffett buy.

And as for the cash as measured by free cash flow (excludes items like non-cash expenses) Berkshire is priced at 20.70 times its free cash flow compared to the S&P 500 Index member average of 16.20 times. This again argues that Berkshire isn’t a value Buffett value stock.

Warren Buffett Stocks: Bank of America (BAC)
it has ample costs for high efficiency ratio (the percentage cost of each dollar in revenue) of 59.8%. This means that it costs Bank of America nearly 60 cents for each dollar of revenue.

Apple (AAPL)
Apple has piles of cash, as it pays little in dividends with a yield of 0.63%. But with its operating margin at 24.15%, it is efficient in its operations. The key of course is growing its universe of products in the field and, in turn, selling more fee income to those device customers.

Warner Bros. Guarantees Filmmakers a Payday for HBO Max Movies
January 10, 2021

the studio has adjusted terms of its deals with partners to guarantee payment regardless of box-office sales and to increase the odds of performance-based bonuses. Warner Bros will also pay a larger group of cast and crew money based on fees it collects from HBO Max, according to people with knowledge of the studio’s plans.

The agreements are a sign of the pandemic-troubled times. Most theaters are closed because of the coronavirus, motivating studios to put their films online. But their payment contracts with partners are usually highly dependent on big-screen success -- a system that many in Hollywood want to protect, because it made them rich.

got room for negotiation. in amdk countries, not alwys big boys will benefit.

China’s Covid Shot Has Four Wildly Different Efficacy Rates
January 12, 2021

Indonesia, which is moving the fastest on distributing the Sinovac shot to its population, said that a local trial showed an efficacy of 65% against Covid-19.

Turkey said last month that the same vaccine showed efficacy of 91.25% in its local trial, which was similarly too small to draw a sufficient conclusion.

In Brazil, ..................... local trial partner, Butantan Institute, said last week that the vaccine was 78% effective in preventing mild cases of Covid-19 and 100% effective against severe and moderate infections.

Yet on Tuesday, Butantan said the overall rate, which also includes very mild cases that didn’t require medical help, is actually 50.38%.

Believe in Tesla? Then Why Aren’t GM, Ford and Toyota Crashing?
Jan. 14, 2021

If Tesla is a success, the rest of the industry won’t be. When someone buys a Tesla, they choose not to buy a Ford or a BMW . And shareholders are ignoring this most basic logic, pricing in success both for Tesla and for the rest of the industry.

The total market value of all other major U.S., European, Japanese and Korean car makers has risen in the past year, even as Tesla’s value rose eightfold to match them. Shares in Chinese and Indian car makers, perhaps less threatened by Tesla, have also risen, while Chinese electric-car makers have soared alongside Tesla.

“The automotive industry needs a lot of semiconductor components . . . such as mature technology for sensors and power management. We are working with customers to mitigate the shortage impact,” he added.

Mr Wei explained that an increase in demand from carmakers for chips in late 2020 had been difficult to meet, given that TSMC’s supply had already been squeezed by strong appetite earlier in the year from other manufacturers.

Tanger Reinstates Cash Dividend
Jan. 14, 2021

its Board of Directors declared a cash dividend of $0.1775 per share, payable on February 12, 2021 to common shareholders of record on January 29, 2021.

"This dividend declaration reflects Tanger's strong liquidity position, with more than $80 million of cash on hand and $600 million of undrawn lines of credit, and the Board's confidence in our business, as demonstrated by the positive traffic and rent collections trends we recently reported," said Stephen Yalof, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The Company currently intends to satisfy minimum taxable income distribution requirements to maintain its REIT status.

use cash and credit to pay dividends? not revenues? if things later pick up need to spend must borrow more?

Hi guys,

I understand that Singaporeans investing in US market are taxed 30% on our dividends.

Hence, I would like to ask what are some workarounds to this tax situation? I could only think of two - (1) buy leaps to stay vested over the long term or (2) stick to short term trades and sell before ex-dividend date.

Sorry if this is a newbie question and if I'm posting on the wrong thread...

Thanks!!
