I took a electric cooker and went trhu NYC JFK aiport. No issues. However ,due to voltage difference, it took longer ltime to cook.

Can I buy the slow cooker, electric one then ship it as original box as check-in baggage?
Any fees I need to pay for airline or sg custom to clear it?

possible to use 220v equipment with 110v, just lack of power and make the equipment work harder (hopefully doesnt spoilt it). But the other way round think not possible and will immediately fry the equipment

Depends... read the below. If u have fancy electronics there maybe risk. Old fashion rice cooker at Walmart cost no more usd$15. U saying buy in Singapore cheaper and worth the hassle to bring plus wait longer time to cook?

just saying, easiest is just order from amazon or walmart and deliver to first hotel. then can throw if dont need it.

This is a terrible idea. Don't do it.

Electrical appliances in the USA are wired for 110 volts; Singapore's grid delivers 230 volts.

Some of the appliances you can buy over here (laptops, a lot of other electronics) have switch-mode power supplies that work fine with anywhere between 110 and 240 volts. But kitchen appliances tend not to - Instant Pots, for example, are only 110 volts or only 220-240 volts.

And if you plug a 110-volt appliance into a 240-volt supply, it will go bang.

I will add that it is not just voltage difference but frequency. US uses 60Hz, while most of the world uses 50Hz.

To use 110V/60Hz at countries with 200-230V/50Hz and other way you will need step-up/step-down transformer. The higher is the power requirement for the appliance, the heavier and more expensive transformer will be required. And transformer will produce noise even when there is no load.

So for any appliance with power requirement more than 200W it is recommended to get them with native power supply for the voltage/hz.

OK yeah I got a pot in usa. 3pin sg kind and it works super slow at usa socket. Then found there's switch to make it power on at 115v then it works as normal now.
I asked the customer support in usa. Working reversed way not ideal. So not going to buy any direct AC plug gadgets. Probably rechargeable one can works. Just use sg charging port.

If not and you are still in Singapore, it might worth to consider Starhub Prepaid option. Starhub allows data roaming at T-mobile and ATT. You can top up SGD $18 for 1 month and 2G of tada or SGD $25 for 1 month 4G. In major metro areas this setup works fine.
