hmm... really depends
ipad air2 in HK is HKD$3888 or sgd$640, USA is usd$399+tax of say 10% its still sgd$560.
mac book air HKD$6688 (sgd$1100 ) vs USD$899 ( sgd$1260 with tax )

as for gas there are other taxes not just sales tax. anyway.. gas in Cali always high.. want cheap gas go TX!

I guess depend on exchange rate and all but from what you say seem USA is cheaper haha. Pai Seh. I wrong info..

Usually winter season is low peak period, you can fly to Washington DC for about $1.1k on SV. Only problem is the long layover.

They're having a sale now, saw some dates for US$804 to IAD. Problem is the long layover.

thats not I read here.. unless U flying Biz? 2nd check bag is US$100 1 way.
Checked Baggage | Delta Air Lines

That's what the first chart says, which was my initial respond too. However, it does say that "exceptions apply". Scroll downwards, where the "General Market Exception" will say flight from SIN to/from USA would have 2 bags, if the tickets are booked after 1 Apr 2014. Your aunt flew in June 2014, probably the tickets booked before 1 Apr 2014

Delta airline service how ? Never take before. In plane shld have entertainment n all

Don't expect too much from US-based airlines. Their flight attendants should be under union, which is quite effective in getting them "rights". For example, the they are not allowed by their union to help you load your luggage onto the overhead bins and they are there primarily for your safety.

Even flying Asian airlines (Thai / ANA), I'm still bringing my own entertainment, snacks, and other personal supplies like eye shades, headphones, power banks, etc.

Colleague flew to USA via Delta airlines told me that the service crew is a little forgetful (could be a one time thing).

They have adequate but not very extensive in-flight entertainment.

I was going to choose Delta airlines but I heard that facilities aren't well maintained. I went ahead with Japan Airlines and I loved it (first-time flyer here). Though I did have a faulty USB port at my seat but it wasn't a bother since I have my powerbank which is more than enough for me (who knows; they steal your data if you plug your phone in to charge it).

Had already ask alot qns for my dec us trip, and i would like to ask abit more transport qns at nyc.
Flying into jfk, my hotel near 42 street port authority.
1st qns: I will take the airtrain from jfk to jamaica station, where do i buy the airtrain ticket? Is it within jamaica station before i exit the turnstiles?

2nd qns: if i take the LIRR at jamaica station, do i need get the ticket before i enter the platform?

3rd qns: i need to take the subway from penn station to port authority, and i intend to purchase the 7-day card, can i purchase this 7-day card from the same machine tat i bought my LIRR ticket?

4th qns: shd i juz skip the LIRR route all together and just take the longer E line from jamaica station to port authority?

Thks!

I can't recommend much simply because I am a man of needs.

That being said, I try to only buy things I need. Which in my case, I bought a North Face Jacket and Rockport shoes. It was a plus because I saved a lot buying from NYC instead of buying in Singapore. Plus the service is better since one person is your 'servant' attending to your wants and needs.

You could buy almost anything there for SGD$10-40 bucks cheaper. Depending on what you want to buy that is.

you should always buy the tickets before you board the metro/train. machines are normally near the gates and not hard to find.

LIRR and the Metro is different. LIRR is basically train and is more comfy but expensive compared to Metro which is like MRT. You cannot buy the 7 day card from the LIRR ticket machine card as they are different systems.

Personally, I would rather take a bus shuttle (eg: JFK to Manhattan | Shuttle Transportation) or take a taxi. Its more expensive but less of a hassle navigating the train and metro systems with luggage. Otherwise, I would rather take the E rather than LIRR. E is express throughout most of Queens.

If I am not wrong, the Airtrain and the metro both use the same Metro card. So you can buy the card with sufficient value for your first day and then reload the same card a 7 day time value the next day.

Unless you must have the latest collection for Rockport, best to look for discount shops like Famous Footwear. They have many store outlets and can also try and ship to hotel. Discount is quite good compared to SG.

Rockport Shoes | FamousFootwear.com

North Face should be available at similar discount at other shops.

Great! An old Victorian house which was on need of restoration repairs at some parts. Creaky stairs up to bedrooms and a old gas stove (never seen one before). I liked it and it didn't bother me.

Everything was good except the fact that I can't get how you guys still use two knobs (one for hot and one for cold) to get your water to the desired temperatures.

It was indeed safe at the part I stayed. Coming home at 2:30am on the first night :O
2 knobs can't be helped cos of the piping system. even in brand new buildings, they also tend to have that. actually, that's better cos can adjust the temp to needs. you might want much hotter water when its cold. :p
