Haha, been thinking of starting IB, coz of it's cheap comm, and spot currency exchange. But don't think I trade big enough to cover the min fees. Need 100k to avoid the min trade comm fees right?

no lah, what nonsense.. lol!
u need $10k to start, and best is.. there is no fee for transferring cash!
they have a bank account in sg, so u can just do FAST transfer.

You may have to subscribe to their live market data. Only if ur commission is above a certain amount (not big, but also not small... as a buy and hold guy, my commission does not reach that threshold), then the data feed is free.

I choose to live without the live data. so my price feed is delayed. which is fine, coz i dont trade on a short term.

For more details, check out this excellent thread. MY favourite broker!
(only issue is that interactive broker so soo big, the info at the beginning is outdated, for example the old way of transferring money... LOL so just read from the middle or the back)

Realised most people doing Singapore Stocks.

I am diversify and touch American stocks, hope to share with more likeminded people here...

American stocks is 100 shares per unit.
(though some brokerage allows odd unit, but I just stick to my Interactive Broker to buy/sell american stocks, as I want to sell options on my USA stocks too)

Picked or picking up these (i have not bought all these stocks, just looking around)

Apple Stocks - AAPL
Reason - Apple Pay, Apply Watch, and the last quarter sales of iphone 6

Disney Stocks DIS
Reason- The new starwars going to be a money-spinner

Horton works HDP
Reason - big data is getting more important

FXCM - FXCM
Reason - small punts. It was devasted by the swiss currency tsunami, and I am wondering if a revival alike Citibank is in the near future...

good analysis....you will be rewarded

Sorry I am very new to investing in stocks, but this is what i found on FXCM...doesn't this mean that it is bad? And the stock will drop this evening?

US Attorneys Plan Investigations into FXCM & Possible Breaches of Equities Rules

Two US law firms have publicly stated that they are investigating listed multi-asset broker, FXCM, for possible violations of the Securities Exchange Act 1934 10(b) and 20(a). Owners of FXCM shares are believed to be in discussions with the attorneys as investigations into the firm come on the back of the massive price drop on Friday the 16th, which saw the stock diving 90%, and consequently being halted by authorities.

The news adds to FXCM’s worries, as details of the broker’s dealings with Leucadia show that the conditions are tough, coupled with its notification of a $225 million loss on the back of CHF price moves.

Leading attorneys in the US, who specialize in financial markets, are investigating the US-based broker. Robert S. Willoughby of Pomerantz and Eduard Korsinsky of Levi & Korsinsky are investigating the matter.

FXCM, one of the largest and most established forex providers to retail and institutional traders, suffered a hefty loss on the back of the CHF moves. As a result, the firm was in financial difficulty and required emergency bailout. The firm received a $300 million payout by holding firm Leucadia, the firm that owns Jefferies, a financial services institute.

Both attorneys are requesting FXCM shareholders to contact them with details of their stock ownership. FXCM’s share price has been trading in the green with the share price rising fifty percent today.

Both law firms were not available for comment.

One of the law firms, Levi & Korsinsky LLP, has an online form for users to complete and provide details of their holdings. On the website the firm adds a retainer agreement which outlines the costing structure for the investigation. It states: “(Levi & Korsinsky) We agree to advance all expenses in the litigation, which means that you are not liable to pay any of the expenses of the lawsuit, whether attorneys’ fees or costs.

Regardless of the result, we will never ask you to directly pay for any attorneys’ fees or costs. Should we obtain a favorable result, we may ask the court to award us compensation to be paid by the defendants or as a portion of any class benefit, but, again, we will never ask you to directly pay any of the costs of this litigation.”

Just curious, where do you guys buy the US stocks through?

Local brokerage or online discounted brokerage? Care to share the name?

The oft recommended ones here in this forum are Stanchart and Interactive Brokers.

For me I use Stanchart.

I think most here use SCB(horrible currency spread, cheap comm), IB or SOT.

If you have more than 10k USD, or trade frequent enough, IB would be best.

Interactive Brokers. Half a cent per share with a one-dollar minimum, and the FX conversion gets done basically at mid-market. There's no contest if you're a big trader.

For smaller traders (IBKR has a minimum of $10k USD, and charges inactivity fees below $100k USD), Stanchart is good because they don't have a minimum brokerage, it's a flat 0.2% or whatever. Their FX rates are pretty wide, though.
