Right now i have Rig and Fxcm, both got long term potential.

I like long term potential. I see you like high yield counter, with each having more than 10% yield. High risk too.

US market moves down at 12+ midnight...

Hello there,

In addition to some of the single company stocks mentioned here, I have small positions in UVV (Universal Corp), EMR (Emerson Electric) and T (AT&T).

I am just a new investor so I hope I would be able to tap on everyone's insights and opinions to complement my own by following this thread.

For Rig not only high yield also for its dividend..... as per yesterday they will be giving 0.75USD per shares, no less or cut off like SDRL. Not sure for the 1st Qtr but for last Qtr we are safe!

For Fxcm wise what i see is undervalue, if the company able to pay off its loans and sell off non-core asset will pop soon. Anyway earning coming in on the 6/03 looks good.

Us seem to have more dividends growth stocks as compared to Singapore.

You are right about that, in fact most of the US counter has this culture of giving dividends once the company reach a mature state.

Another huge advantage is the dividend champions contenders and challengers list of companies which respectively has paid 25, 10, 5 years of consecutive incremental dividends annually.

The list is all in here:
David Fish's lists of Dividend Champions, Contenders, and Challengers

I was interested in UVV too, but I was already vested in MO back then. MO has a stake in SABMiller business which seems more diversify and it has been a great decision for me watching the stock price grow and the dividends too.

EMR was also in my watchlist, a dividend stalwart if I recall correctly, but I was already vested in some other counter which I can't recall.

T, one of my great earners too, vested 2 years back and the dividends is awesome. Their expansion plan should bear fruits. Cutting each other's price in US telecom business is not benefiting S, VZ or T.

Some stuff from SA:
AT&T reported better than expected Q4 2014 earnings.
The company recently announced that it acquired high-grade spectrum.
DirecTV acquisition is another interesting play which hopefully will pay off.

Hi guys what about SDRL

Did you buy before dividend suspension?
Did you know their price tanked after suspending dividends?
Did you know most people buy for their ultra high dividends?

I see high risk and high return, but not as good as LINE, so I vested in LINE. Same high risk but more assured returns after both cut dividends.
Personal opinion only.

SDRL is not well received in SA either, but going contrarian sometimes huat big. What's your opinion?

Too bad, not many people play US market in this forum. If not it will be interesting to see each other's long term play. Trading US market would be very tiring.

My list is not very good de, too diversified. I'm trying to consolidate too, but everytime I look left is KO, DIS, KMI, look right is PEP, BRK.B, OHI, look up is AAPL, GILD, JNJ... All looks good leh, how to trim?

Btw, your LB seems interesting, a long term upward trend in last 5 year. Will read up more.

Banks goes up, Reits comes down. Just a job growth report already can spark mini correction. When Rate hike really comes, what would the impact be?

Maybe u can try oil industry. Especially co whose core business is in midstream ops, I believe they can tahan the low price crude environment.

Focus on those midstream partners which are divest from oil majors/ big refiners. But take note that dividend are tax at 40% compared to the normal rate of 30%. Vested in VlP and SHLX.

Thank for the tips, am looking into SHLX, as for VIP, are you referring to VLP?
I just had a look at SHLX, quite a good total return stock.

The 40% tax would be nothing as if you buy into this, you know you are in for the total returns. Still interesting to know there is a different tax bracket of 40% which I never know of.

Thank you for your remarks.

I am taking the dividend growth approach, as it can be seen by my choice in stocks. However, there is always this temptation to also add powerful growth stocks that do not meet the dividend growth criteria (at least for now), such as AAPL and GILD. I know it is up to the individual to invest how he sees fit, but what are your thoughts on this?

I decided to start a small position in UVV because it was the only dividend champion that met Ben Graham's criteria for defensive stocks at my point of purchase (I think).

I am vested in both AAPL and GILD....and i plan to hold them long term. Between the two, AAPL is probably the safer bet when it comes to capital gain. IMHO. Kicking myself for not buying more V before the stock split announcement. Too pricey to buy more now...but then again...on hindsight everything is 20-20.

Another stock i think i am late already is ATLS. :(

Ya. It's VLP. Auto correction at its best.

Thank to you, I manage to see a news slipped by my radar, or that I forgot about the news. TRGP Acquisition of ATLS and NGLS Acquisition of APL.
Targa To Acquire Atlas Energy And Atlas Pipeline For $7.7 Billion; Transaction Excludes All Non-Midstream Assets - MarketWatch

Gonna study this piece of infor as I'm vested in APL. ATLS looks good though, had a huge drop recently, why do you say you are late? Is it due to the acquisiton news?

I think you already know what I think, haha. I'm vested in AAPL n GILD. And it's not a token position like say LINE. Also vested in V, BRK.B and others which are all growth stocks. Notice that they all are cash rich counters too.

Good approach you have there with regards to Ben Graham's criteria.

Yo guys,

any US stocks to recommend that would continue to benefit from the low oil prices?
I can only think of airline stocks, and so far I have a very small exposure to LUV.

Any other recommendations for those who believe low oil is here for 2015... ;)

Oh I mean companies that uses oil, and hence benefit from oil low prices.
In singapore, the obvious beneficiaries are SIA, ComfortDelgo etc.

Wondering what USA stocks would people here buy to benefit?

I have just googled and read through a few write up on NOV. I don't like what I saw, and frankly because Im biased towards oil continued low prices, I won't touch NOV in my portfolio.

I like LUV too, was tempted to go in last time when I researched and found this LUV and ALK as the best pair in the industry.

BA, LMT, though technically not a transport stock, also not affected by oil price that much. I own them and they serve me well. Sold LMT too early though. Looking to buy back.
