True, greek issue is like a small drag every now and then, providing chances to enter whenever negative news come out. Barring Grexit, it is nice to have this sort of noise here and there.

Friday usually sell down because traders usually don't hold stocks over weekend. They can't react if there is any news on sat and sun. But that said, I seldom think about it.

I'm heavily invested in JNJ, looking at the sell down as chance to slowly add in more.
MEIP seems interesting, you added at $3 low? you sure can pick a golden bargain.
Do you think JNJ will go down further? I am eyeing the mid 90s range...thinking that might be a good time to enter this stock. For the long term of course.

yea i entered MEIP in the $3 plus range....happy with it...hopefully it continues. Fingers crossed....50 shares. Not much, but hey...still fun to watch.

I am KINDA hoping there will be a bit more dips tonight seeing it is the 13th...and it is Friday...I don't usually bother to check how much stuff dips on fridays but this might be a good opportunity to grab some bargains. Who knows. Heh! One can only hope.

I'm looking at $96 where it last hit in Oct 2014. After that, it's mid $80.
If it falls below $80, it's a falling knife.

SAme same leh.
I sold puts for these usa stocks in the hope that they will dip below and let me grab them at a golden bargain....:D

MO, HCP, PPC, YHOO, RAI, SIG, LB, LUV
Supposed to close LUV for a profit this weekend, but I decided to be greedy and hold... and buy more LOL

I have been researching on MO vs PM...and i just can't make a clear decision on it...so it is just staying on my watch list for now...too much noise...and I am finding it a bit too confusing.

Looks like i have really missed the boat for WFM. I hesitated a few days ago...and well...the ship has sailed. Must admit it is completely an emotional buy (part time culinary instructor), but I definitely see potential.

Will continue monitoring this one. Anyone have this on their portfolio? Any thoughts?

Careful there, I just had a quick look at it. Double digit yield is usually hard to maintain. I have been buying reits for 2 years++, from my little experience, the higher yielding reits' prices tend to move lower, so you gotta be ready to take the capital hit. Also, dividend cuts are always a possibility.

The only reit that has provided me with consistent dividends and slow capital appreciation are O, MAIN, OHI etc... Their dividends is in the 6% range when I bought, so it's sustainable and mostly growing.

The higher yielding one like PNNT, PSEC, DX, AGNC all had either huge capital plunge or dividends cut. If you wanna invest in high yielding reits, it's best to watch carefully, highly volatile.

FYI - This Monday (16 Feb) is a public holiday in the US. President's day. That means it is a long weekend....stock market only re-opens on Tuesday 17th Feb. Another reason I think the market will be quite red tonight.

Euro zone economy accelerates thanks to German 'thunderbolt'

Euro zone economic growth accelerated unexpectedly in the final quarter of 2014 as the bloc's largest member, Germany, expanded at more than twice the expected rate.

A preliminary estimate showed the economy of the 18 countries sharing the euro expanded by 0.3 percent between October and December compared with the previous three months, the European Union's statistics office Eurostat said on Friday.

Very high dividend yield...

So the thing about that one is that it's a mortgage REIT, not an actual REIT. I think I wrote about those elsewhere, but the deal is that instead of owning actual houses or office blocks or whatever, it owns a heavily leveraged portfolio of mortgage-backed bonds (and because of a quirk in the US REIT laws, that means it can still call itself a REIT and get REIT-y tax treatment as long as it pays out all the mortgage bond coupons in dividends).

The phat coupon comes along because they are LEVERAGED UP TO THE EYEBALLS. They have somewhere around $200 million of equity supporting a portfolio of $1.4 billion in mortgage bonds, which for those of you who are playing along at home is an eye-watering 7:1 leverage ratio. Your tradeoff for that phat yield is that there's going to be some monstrous drawdowns whenever interest rates move in either direction (this is where things start to get a little propellor-head-y, but suffice to say ORC's trading book will lose money in both directions, and it'll lose A LOT because it's so highly leveraged); and as short-term rates go up, the dividend will collapse because they'll have to pay out more cash to fund their leverage.

And it's not even particularly cheap in mREIT terms - it's trading at about 100% of its book value, and there are (I'm told) cheaper mREITs out there.

I wouldn't get involved.

As what Shiny has said, unless you are particularly good at picking stocks and valuing them, it's better to avoid these type of high yield stock.
My experience tells me the high yield is rarely if ever sustainable. Either the price fall, or the dividend cut.
In fact, lower yielding blue chip can outperform them by paying rising dividend and incremental capital appreciation.
