Ya, she viet from hcmc. She can speak Chinese, English and Vietnamese as she used to be hotel mgr in Bizu Hotel. Some stalls in BT mkt are ok, you need to know which ones to go to, esp. those selling snacks like dried jackfruit etc.

Crossing the streets is one major stress in vietnam eh. One way traffic sometimes is two way.

Ya very true, just cross slowly. I saw some tourists stand there and waiting, not sure waiting for what, like that, till night, will still be standing there. So I just help them cross...lol

You cross slowly and the motorists can see and will avoid if need be. Run, sure die, same as in China. But they usually not fast or speeding, so not that bad, just daunting for first timers there when see sea of motos on road.

thinking of visiting hanoi end of dec/early jan, have a few questions!
trip will be in a group of 4 to 5, around 5 to 7 days there

1) how is the weather then? i read that its about 17-18C, but are there strong winds/rain?
2) where is a good place to stay? not sure about the transportation there.
3) any must-see attractions there?
4) is $500 sufficient for 7 days?

Hi,

I went hanoi last december.

1) Cool weather in Hanoi. Colder in Sapa and Halong bay. So far I didn't encounter any strong wind. There is slight drizzle at Sapa on day 1 but day 2 was sunny. Slight drizzle at Halong bay at nite but rest of the day no rain.

2) Best to stay in old quarters area. Most attraction - the lake, water puppet and etc are within walking distance. I stayed at Hanoi B&B Hostel. Good location and good service. I recommend you to find a hotel near Hanoi B&B Hostel as that location is good.

I walk to most attraction in Hanoi except taking taxi to the Hanoi cirucus.

3) I think have to depend where are you going. If go Halong bay $500 is not enough. It is around USD90 per pax for 2D1N trip. Going sapa is around USD78 per pax for return train trip.

Hotel is cheap at old quarters - usually less than USD50 per nite with breakfast.

Food is cheap is Hanoi provided you dun eat at high class resturant.

We cannot tell you if $500 is enough unless you work it out yourself. Do a excel spreadsheet with the attraction you wanted to go and find the cost and est how much you are going to spend for food.

PM me if you need further info.

Hi

I bought a viettel sim card with 8 mins worth of international call, 40 mins worth of local call and unlimited data.

I bought it on 17 July and it is valid for 1 month, means last day is on 16 Aug.

If you are keen to have it, please pm me.

IT IS FOR FREE because since I have no use for it.

Thanks.
hi,

may i know if any know the location of the outlet selling the sim card mentioned in HCM airport? thanks :)

Ive not heard of pub crawl...but read up it's got to do with going to 5 pubs right? Going to be expensive man....but alone seems a bit....I'm not sure if you'll enjoy.

For café, can try Nguyen Hoang at 227E Le Thanh Ton, very near BT market. It has nice and authentic coffee and can select the beans you like to grind and take away in airtight pack. Not expensive. I bought a few times.
