Is mid Dec a good time to visit Hanoi, Sapa, the northern part? I know its gonna be cold, but is it still advisable to go? Purpose of the trip is trekking, hiking, nature sightseeing.

The plan is to fly to Hanoi and travel down to HCM. Is 3 weeks sufficient? And roughly how much do I need to change?
Also, how is the transportation like? To travel from one city to another?
Regarding the boat tours, book when i'm there?

Thanks.

It is going to be wet and cold. It may be a miserable experience. As you move south, it gets warmer but still wet!
It may rain for days on end. 3 weeks is sufficient. I managed in 10 days, Hanoi-Halong Bay-Hue-Da Nang-Hoi An-Nha Trang-HCM City with the open bus. I did not visit Sapa and Da Lat though. But I did sign up for local tours to Halong Bay, Mekong Delta and Cu Chi Tunnels. To travel between cities, consider coaches or the open bus system like I did. Trains are another possibility.

What's this open bus? Its goes to every part of Vietnam? Does it come frequently or like 2-3 hrs one bus that kind? Do you know if they have website that allows us to check the timing?

Thanks.

Vietnam spans a narrow, elongated landmass with attractions arrayed along the coastal highway along the north-south axis.

These are by no means the only operators of the Open Tour.

1) sign up at any of those travel desks you find at the guesthouses along Pham Ngu Lao. The prices between agents are similar and they inevitably pool their guests together to subcontractors. Itineraries are all the same.
2) ditto as above

Alternatives are those higher level ones offered at x star hotels. Smaller groups, perhaps, better food and transport.

Really? That was good considering the weak sgd in fx last week. Wonder why you get such high rate. My viet FIL change there only managed 16k there. So you sure? Which one? Mai Van or Ha Tam? There's only these 2 famous gold shops next to BT mkt.

What are the famous gold shops locations and their shop names?

Hi I'm also curious as to the exact names. Yesterday I saw a malay couple in front of me quoted 16080 by Ha Tam at BT and I then was quoted and changed at Mai Van at 16100. Airport was 158 or 159 if i recall correctly.

Me opposite. That day, it was 16080 at Mai Van, and 16100 at Ha Tam.

Supposedly. Just arrived yesterday and we saw it but thought it was a fog. Mostly we been travelling by taxi to eateries and hotel so didn't notice much or smell much.

My FIL just arrived here from HCMC...yes, there is haze there but not as bad as here.

The two money changers are Mai Van at 1A Nguyen An Ninh Street and Ha Tam at 2 Nguyen An Ninh Street. Both foreigner currency exchange shops are located next to each other, separated by a small road. And both shops are located directly in front of one of the gates (entrances) of the Ben Thanh Market. It's easy to locate them- just walk round the side of the Ben Thanh Market, towards the direction of the New World Hotel Saigon.
