I change vnd at their gold shop in backpacker street about 15940 first week of September.

Change in hcmc always better than here, as demand low here for vnd. In fact, most money changers do not even have vnd as I found out. I usually change at gold shops near BT market and it's always much better than bank rate in hcmc by few hundred K.

this year the rate about 15700 ...
coz went in mar also abt tat rate ...

I fluctuates according to USD as it's crawling peg to USD...I get about 15650 in Mar but 16350 in Jun this year. So hard to say. It went lower after that and now slowly back into 16k range already. Hope it will keep the momentum and USD don't get too strong against SGD.

I just did a short write up (with lotsa photos) for my time in HCM, Mekong Delta and Hanoi's Old Quarter!

http://strongertmr.com/2015/09/26/backpacking-vietnam-part-1-ho-chi-minh-mekong-hanoi/#more-237

Here's a short excerpt:

"Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital is located in the North. One of the most visited place there is the Hoan Kiem District, more famously known as the Old Quarter. Here, the streets are filled with the hustle and bustle of thousands of people zipping by on scooters and peddlers hawking their wares. In the morning, take a walk around the calm and serene Hoan Kiem Lake where you’ll be joining numerous locals performing their morning exercises. Then, stop by one of the many street hawkers to grab a bite for lunch and try out Hanoi’s famous egg coffee. In the evening, head up to Hanoi’s famous beer street where hundreds of people sit on plastic stools in the open, sipping on cheap Bia Hoi (freshly brewed local beer)."

and some photos:

Feel free to ask any questions such as itineray and what not. My next post on Vietnam will be on Sapa and Halong Bay!

Hey guys, more stuff on Vietnam for y'all! Two of some of my favorite sights are in Vietnam. Halong Bay and Sapa! I managed to get tours of the places for pretty cheap at USD 80 and USD 135 all in! More information on my site/feel free to ask me anything too!:

"Halong Bay is a magnificent place, it boasts an area of over 1,553 km2 and is littered with as many as 2000 islets (mostly limestine). Halong Bay, is also known as the site 'where the dragon descended into the sea'. According to ancient lore, the many islets were created when a great dragon plunged into the sea...."

"Sa Pa is located high up among the mountains of north-west Vietnam, 1500 meters above sea level. It is a quiet town and there is a great diversity of ethnic people who live there or are found in the surrounding villages. "

Great post and great pictures! @liftstrong

Other than architectural and historical buildings in HCM, are there any other interesting attractions?

Thought of going to Vietnam this Nov for 4D3N. I checked the tickets for Jetstar and it's around SGD130+ round trip.

Tbh no! Most people head to hcm to shop and eat! It is pretty small and two days is enough to see all the main attractions.

To me, interesting consists of scenic views, adventures or wildlife which Hanoi (halong bay and sapa) has plenty of. However if you just need some R&R, shop, eat and tour abit. Hcm is a great place to be! :) most.importantly, cheap :D

Data SIM (micro-SIM) card for >1 month

Folks,

I plan to be in Vietnam in November and in December - 1.5month later. I will need data SIM card which will go either to dual-SIM phone or mobile hotspot.

The things is - the stay in Vietnam is short in both cases - 3 and 4 days. I won't need much data - no more than 200-300MB each case - just to check email and small things.

What I want is to keep the SIM card for my next arrival so I won't need to buy it again.

Any recommendations?
